Purpose: To investigate prevalence and anatomical distribution of musculoskeletal pain (MSP) and its impact on quality of life (QoL) in elementary school teachers working in Muğla town center.

Methods: Physical, sociodemographic and occupational characteristics of 104 teachers were recorded. Onset, prevalence and consequences of MSP (Extended Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire) and QoL (Short Form-36 Health Survey) of teachers with (n = 37) and without (n = 67) MSP during the last 12 months were compared.

Results: The prevalence of MSP was 77% for the lifelong period and 36% for the last 12 months. Physical and sociodemographic characteristics, daily employment period and length of standing and sitting were similar between groups (p > 0.05). The most common painful regions were the neck (39%) and the lower back (38%). MSP of these regions was the common reason for seeking healthcare, prevention from activities and taking sick leave. MSP had negative impact, especially on the physical components of QoL (p < 0.05).

Conclusions: The results reveal high prevalence of MSP among teachers, as well as its negative impacts on QoL. Especially neck and lower back seem to be the most frequently affected regions of the body. These findings draw attention toward the need for developing strategies to prevent MSP among teachers.

Background: Patients with a left ventricular ejection fraction ≤ 35% are at increased risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD) within the first months after a myocardial infarction (MI). The wearable cardioverter defibrillator (WCD) is an established, safe and effective solution which can protect patients from SCD during the first months after an MI, when the risk of SCD is at its peak. This study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of WCD combined with guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) compared to GDMT alone, after MI in the English National Health Service (NHS).

Globally, breast cancer is the most frequent type of cancer, and its early diagnosis and screening can significantly improve the probability of survival and quality of life of those affected. Liquid biopsy-based targets such as circulating tumor cells, circulating tumor DNA, and exosomes have been instrumental in the early discovery of cancer, and have been found to be effective in stage therapy, recurrence monitoring, and drug selection. Biosensors based on these target related biomarkers convert the tested substances into quantifiable signals such as electrical and optical signals through signal transduction, which has the advantages of high sensitivity, simple operation, and low invasiveness.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate whether vitamin K (menatetrenone) suppresses bone mineral density (BMD) loss in the irradiated region after radiotherapy (RT) in uterine cancer patients.

Materials And Methods: Our study included 34 patients who underwent whole pelvic irradiation for uterine cancer between 2001 and 2010. The patients were categorized in two groups: (1) Vitamin K (45 mg/day) administration group (group A) with 18 cases and (2) non-administered group (group B) with 16 cases.

The most common cause of rotator cuff injury is supraspinatus tendon tears (STTs). High-intensity laser therapy (HILT) has recently emerged as an important conservative treatment option. This study was designed as a randomised controlled trial in patients with partial STTs to compare the effects of HILT with those of ultrasound (US) therapy.

Aims/hypothesis: UK standard care for type 2 diabetes is structured diabetes education, with no effects on HbA, small, short-term effects on weight and low uptake. We evaluated whether remotely delivered tailored diabetes education combined with commercial behavioural weight management is cost-effective compared with current standard care in helping people with type 2 diabetes to lower their blood glucose, lose weight, achieve remission and improve cardiovascular risk factors.

Methods: We conducted a pragmatic, randomised, parallel two-group trial.
