Background: The choice of biomarkers for early detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is important for improving the accuracy of imaging-based prediction of conversion from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to AD. The primary goal of this study was to assess the effects of imaging modalities and brain atlases on prediction. We also investigated the influence of support vector machine recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE) on predictive performance.
Methods: Eighty individuals with amnestic MCI [40 developed AD within 3 years] underwent structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) scans at baseline. Using Automated Anatomical Labeling (AAL) and LONI Probabilistic Brain Atlas (LPBA40), we extracted features representing gray matter density and relative cerebral metabolic rate for glucose in each region of interest from the baseline MRI and FDG-PET data, respectively. We used linear SVM ensemble with bagging and computed the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) as a measure of classification performance. We performed multiple SVM-RFE to compute feature ranking. We performed analysis of variance on the mean AUCs for eight feature sets.
Results: The interactions between atlas and modality choices were significant. The main effect of SVM-RFE was significant, but the interactions with the other factors were not significant.
Comparison With Existing Method: Multimodal features were found to be better than unimodal features to predict AD. FDG-PET was found to be better than MRI.
Conclusions: Imaging modalities and brain atlases interact with each other and affect prediction. SVM-RFE can improve the predictive accuracy when using atlas-based features.

Purpose: During endovascular revascularization interventions for peripheral arterial disease, the standard modality of X-ray fluoroscopy (XRF) used for image guidance is limited in visualizing distal segments of infrapopliteal vessels. To enhance visualization of arteries, an image registration technique was developed to align pre-acquired computed tomography (CT) angiography images and to create fusion images highlighting arteries of interest.
Methods: X-ray image metadata capturing the position of the X-ray gantry initializes a multiscale iterative optimization process, which uses a local-variance masked normalized cross-correlation loss to rigidly align a digitally reconstructed radiograph (DRR) of the CT dataset with the target X-ray, using the edges of the fibula and tibia as the basis for alignment.

Identifying cell types and brain regions critical for psychiatric disorders and brain traits is essential for targeted neurobiological research. By integrating genomic insights from genome-wide association studies with a comprehensive single-cell transcriptomic atlas of the adult human brain, we prioritized specific neuronal clusters significantly enriched for the SNP-heritabilities for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder along with intelligence, education, and neuroticism. Extrapolation of cell-type results to brain regions reveals the whole-brain impact of schizophrenia genetic risk, with subregions in the hippocampus and amygdala exhibiting the most significant enrichment of SNP-heritability.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare different treatment modalities to correct ill-fitted maxillary complete denture either by the conventional relining method or by scanning the relining impression and digitally construct a new denture regarding patient satisfaction, denture retention, and adaptation.
Materials And Methods: Twelve edentulous patients suffering from loose maxillary complete dentures were selected, dentures' borders and fitting surfaces were prepared, and relining impressions were taken, the impressions were scanned and the STL files were used for CAD/CAM milling ( computer aided designing/ computer aided manufacturing) of new maxillary dentures (Group A), then the relining impression went through the conventional laboratory steps to fabricate (Group B) maxillary dentures. Both groups were evaluated regarding patient satisfaction by a specially designed questionnaire, retention values were measured by a digital force gauge at denture insertion appointment and two weeks later, geomagic software was used to evaluate dentures adaptation to oral tissues.
