Long term outcome after surgical tetralogy of Fallot repair at young age: Longitudinal follow-up up to 50 years after surgery.

Int J Cardiol

January 2025

Department of Cardiology, Cardiovascular Institute, Thorax Center, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, the Netherlands; European Reference Network for Rare, Low Prevalence and Complex Diseases of the Heart (ERN GUARD-Heart), Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Background: Little is known about the very long-term outcome in Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) patients.

Objectives: To prospectively evaluate clinical outcome and quality-of-life after surgical repair of ToF.

Methods: Single-centre, longitudinal cohort-study evaluating every decade 144 ToF patients who underwent surgical repair <15 years of age between 1968 and 1980.

Contemporary Insights into LMNA Cardiomyopathy.

Curr Cardiol Rep

January 2025

Cardiovascular Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA.

Purpose Of Review: This review aims to explore how a diagnosis of LMNA-related cardiomyopathy (LMNA-CM) informs clinical management, focusing on the prevention and management of its complications, through practical clinical strategies.

Recent Findings: Longitudinal studies have enhanced our understanding of the natural history of LMNA-CM including its arrhythmic and non-arrhythmic complications. A LMNA specific ventricular arrhythmia risk prediction strategy has been integrated into clinical practice guidelines.

Background: Transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) commonly leads to heart failure but has traditionally been an exclusion criterion in randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i); therefore, the effects of these drugs in this population remain undocumented. In light of recent studies, this meta-analysis aimed to investigate the effect of SGLT2i on the prognosis of patients with ATTR-CM.

Methods: A comprehensive search of Medline, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library was conducted up to November 17, 2024.

Cardiorespiratory-gated cardiac proton radiotherapy using a novel ultrasound guidance system.

Clin Transl Radiat Oncol

March 2025

Smilow Center for Translational Research, Room 8-136, Univ of Pennsylvania, Perelman School of Medicine, 3400 Civic Center Blvd, Bldg 421, Philadelphia, PA 19104, USA.

Cardiac stereotactic body radiotherapy is a promising noninvasive treatment for patients with refractory ventricular tachycardia. With the aim to prove feasibility of a novel image guided radiotherapy and heart motion gating device, cardiac proton radiotherapy was performed using a porcine model. Using a novel adaptation of γ - H2AX tissue staining techniques, we have been able to localize a radiation beam in large animal tissue to assess targeting accuracy within a defined field.

Outcomes in Catheter Ablation of Sustained Ventricular Tachycardia in Myocarditis Compared with Ischemic Heart Disease.

Rev Cardiovasc Med

January 2025

Arrhythmia Center, Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, 100037 Beijing, China.

Background: The substrates for arrhythmias in myocarditis and ischemic heart disease (IHD) are different, but it is yet to be determined whether there is a difference in outcomes following catheter ablation (CA) for ventricular tachycardia (VT) associated with these two conditions. This study aimed to compare outcomes after CA of VT in patients with myocarditis versus those with IHD.

Methods: Patients undergoing CA for sustained VT confirmed by endomyocardial biopsy as myocarditis, and patients with IHD experiencing sustained VT undergoing CA were retrospectively enrolled from February 2017 to March 2023.
