Teflon tubes for stenting and bypassing the lacrimal drainage pathways.

University of Toronto, Mount Sinai Hospital, Ontario, Canada.

Published: December 1989

I report my experience using a new tear duct tube made from medical grade Teflon (Dupont) both as a bypass tube in situations in which a Pyrex Jones tube (Gunther Weiss, Portland Oregon) traditionally would be used, as well as a stent through the lower canaliculus, or as a bypass tube placed either through the lower canaliculus or at the inner canthus in connection with canaliculus laceration repair. After relatively brief follow-up, these Teflon tubes appeared to be associated with fewer complications than the Jones tube and in certain instances to offer other advantages as well.

Article Synopsis
  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are harmful chemicals linked to cancer, found in both indoor and outdoor environments, and this study measured their levels in coffee shops in Zahedan, Iran during winter 2022.
  • The researchers recorded high average concentrations of PAHs in both particulate (13,411.86 ng/m³) and gaseous (6,432.76 ng/m³) forms, with major sources identified as fossil fuel use and environmental tobacco smoke.
  • Risk assessments showed that both adults and children face significant lifetime cancer risks from inhaling PAHs, indicating an urgent need for improved health warnings and stricter indoor smoking regulations in public spaces.

World J Gastroenterol

August 2024

Department of Infection Control, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, Sichuan Province, China.

Background: Commonly used cleaning brushes in the reprocessing of flexible endoscopes often cause damage within the working channels.

Aim: To develop a spray flushing system to achieving effective cleaning of the working channels while minimizing damage.

Methods: This prospective study included 60 used endoscopes and 60 Teflon tubes randomly divided into a control group ( = 30) and an experimental group ( = 30).

The 6935M Sprint Quattro Secure S and 6947M Sprint Quattro Secure are high voltage leads designed to administer a maximum of 40 joules of energy for terminating ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation. Both leads utilize silicone insulation and a polyurethane outer coating. The inner coil is shielded with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) tubing, while other conductors are enveloped in ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE), contributing to the structural integrity and functionality of these leads.
