There are presented the results of the work, which aims to identify the relationship between the temperature of air in the salons of subway cars from the heat output of passengers in different people occupancy of cars during "peak hours", and to determine the efficacy offorced air handling regular ventilation or air conditioning system to remove the elevated heat load on passengers. In the work there was used the method of calculating the amount of heat output of 215 passengers (nominal fullness of the chamber) and the simulation method of heat and moisture output of the same number of passengers. The operating system of ventilation has been shown to fail to decline the average temperature of the air in the passenger compartment to the optimum values and most efficient approach for the reducing the heat load on the passengers is the use of air conditioning systems.

Calculating the fatigue strength of load-bearing structures of special self-propelled rolling stock.

Sci Rep

August 2024

Department of Transport and Cargo Systems, The Faculty of Transportation System Management, Tashkent State Transport University, Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan.

This research primarily focuses on the strength indicators of the bearing structures of ADM-1 special self-propelled rolling stock. The special self-propelled rolling stock used by Uzbek railroads reaching the end of their functional life is a pertinent problem as Uzbekistan's railway system is growing rapidly, but there is a lack of enough funds to buy new special self-propelled rolling stock. Hence, it is vital to fix the issues with ADM-1 special self-propelled rolling stock by overhauling them.

Bayesian hierarchical modeling and inference for mechanistic systems in industrial hygiene.

Ann Work Expo Health

Department of Biostatistics, University of California Los Angeles, 650 Charles E. Young Drive South, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1772, United States.

A series of experiments in stationary and moving passenger rail cars were conducted to measure removal rates of particles in the size ranges of SARS-CoV-2 viral aerosols and the air changes per hour provided by existing and modified air handling systems. Such methods for exposure assessments are customarily based on mechanistic models derived from physical laws of particle movement that are deterministic and do not account for measurement errors inherent in data collection. The resulting analysis compromises on reliably learning about mechanistic factors such as ventilation rates, aerosol generation rates, and filtration efficiencies from field measurements.

Ambient air ultrafine particles (UFP, particles with a diameter <100 nm) have gained significant attention in World Health Organization (WHO) air quality guidelines and European legislation. This review explores UFP concentrations and particle number size distributions (PNC-PNSD) in various transportation hotspots, including road traffic, airports, harbors, trains, and urban commuting modes (walking, cycling, bus, tram, and subway). The results highlight the lack of information on personal exposure at harbors and railway stations, inside airplanes and trains, and during various other commuting modes.

Concentrations of particulate matter (PM, PM), ultrafine (UFP), particle number (PNC), black carbon (BC), nitrogen dioxide (NO) and nitrogen oxides (NO) were measured in train carriages on diesel and bi-mode trains on inter-city and long-distance journeys in the United Kingdom (UK) using a high-quality mobile measurement system. Air quality on 15 different routes was measured using highly-time resolved data on a total of 119 journeys during three campaigns in winter 2020 and summer 2021; this included 13 different train classes. Each journey was sampled 4-10 times with approximatively 11,000 min of in-train concentrations in total.
