Objective: Examine availability of physician assistants (PAs) or nurse practitioners (NPs) in primary care physician practices by state and by state PA and NP scope-of-practice laws.
Methods: Availability of PAs and NPs in primary care practices was examined in multivariate analysis using a 2012 state-based, nationally representative survey of office-based physicians. Covariates included practice characteristics, state, and in a separate model, PA and NP scope-of-practice variables.
Results: After controlling for practice characteristics, higher use of PAs and NPs was found in three states (Minnesota, Montana, and South Dakota). In a separate model, higher use of PAs or NPs was associated with favorable PA scope-of-practice laws, but not with NP scope-of-practice laws.
Conclusions: Higher availability of PAs or NPs was associated with favorable PA scope-of-practice laws. Lack of association between PA or NP availability and NP scope-of-practice laws requires further investigation.

The development of ultraviolet (UV) shielding materials is of great importance to protect human health and prevent the degradation of organic matter. However, the synthesis of highly efficient UV shielding polymer nanocomposites is currently limited by the agglomeration of inorganic anti-UV nanoparticles (NPs) within the polymer matrix and the limited absorption spectrum of UV shielding agents. In this study, highly effective manganese doped carbon quantum dots@halloysite nanotube composites (Mn-CDs@HNTs/PAS) were successfully synthesized by loading manganese-doped carbon quantum dots (Mn-CDs) into UV shielding effective halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) via the solvothermal method, followed by polymerization modification (PAS).

Background: Clinician turnover is costly for health care organizations.
Local Problem: A retention strategy for newly hired nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician associates (PAs) was needed at our organization.
Methods: A quality improvement project was conducted to determine whether a mentorship program could improve retention and employment experiences of newly hired NPs and PAs.
Introduction: Osthole, a naturally occurring coumarin derivative, has been isolated from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Cnidium monnieri. This compound exhibits a range of pharmacological properties, including anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects. The objective of this study was to investigate the role of osthole in tissue remodeling in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyp (CRSwNP).

Object: Physician associates (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) are distributed across 70 medical and surgical specialties. A central role is to provide outpatient care. Urology is a significant employer of PAs and NPs, but their scope of practice in the ambulatory setting needs to be better delineated.
