Objectives: To determine the importance of Ae. aegypti breeding-sites in Merida;to evaluate the impact of Recicla por tu bienestar (RxB, a recycling program) on the reduction of breeding sites and the perception of participants.

Materials And Methods: The relative importance for pupae production of the different types of breeding-sites was determined. Pre-and post-RxB entomological surveys were performed in participant neighborhoods to evaluate the impact on total containers and positive breeding-sites. A survey on the perception of participating people about dengue prevention and control and RxB was applied.

Results: Buckets/pots and "small diverse items" were the most important breeding-sites. RxB had a significant impact in the reduction of total containers (IRR = 0.74), positive containers (IRR = 0.33) and the risk of a house being positive for Ae. aegypti (OR = 0.41). All the interviewed participants referred RxB as needed and most consider it useful.

Conclusions: RxB should be considered as a good practice for the dengue vector control.

College of Big Data, Yunnan Agricultural University, 452 Fengyuan Road, Panlong District, Kunming, Yunnan 650201, China.

Lanping black-boned (LPBB) sheep are a unique and rare ruminant species, characterized by black pigmentation in the skin and internal organs. Thus far, LPBB are the only known animal with heritable melanin characteristics besides the black-boned chicken, and the only mammal known to contain a large amount of melanin in the body. LPBB have therefore attracted substantial research attention, due to their potential contribution to medicine.

Turnip mosaic virus (TuMV) poses a major threat to crops like Chinese cabbage, causing significant economic losses. A viable and effective strategy to manage such diseases is by improvement of genetic-based viral resistance. To achieve this, it is important to have detailed and wide-ranging genetic resources, necessitating genetic exploration.

The introgression of heterologous genomes through interspecific hybridization offers a great opportunity to expand the gene pool of crops, thereby broadening the traits that can be targeted for improvement. The introgression of C genomic regions carrying desirable traits from (AACC) into the diploid (AA) via homoeologous recombination (HR) has been commonly used. However, the precise identification of HR sites remains a significant challenge, limiting the practical application of genome introgression via HR in breeding programs.

Significance of KLK7 expression, polymorphisms, and function in sheep horn growth.

BMC Genomics

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Animal Biotech Breeding, Institute of Animal Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Beijing, 100193, China.

Background: Sheep horns play a critical role in the survival and reproduction of sheep. Research on sheep horns not only aids in comprehending their biological roles but is also vital for developing hornless breeds. Although previous studies have suggested that KLK7 may be associated with keratin growth, there are few studies that have focused on the role of KLK7 in sheep horns.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) functions as an inhibitory neurotransmitter which blocks the impulses between nerve cells in the brain. Due to the increasing awareness about the health promoting benefits associated with GABA, it is also artificially synthesized and consumed as a nutritional supplement by people in some regions of the world. Though among the fresh vegetables, tomato fruits do contain a comparatively higher amount of GABA (0.
