Context: Patients presenting with heart failure symptoms are categorized into heart failure (HF) with reduced and preserved ejection fraction.
Objective: Aim is to investigate the additional use of candidate biomarkers to characterize patients with either sub-type of HF.
Methods: Literature search was conducted in the electronic databases MEDLINE and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from inception through November 2014.
Results: The results of 47 diseased and general population cohorts were included.
Conclusion: Current studies could outline the additional use of candidate biomarkers especially GDF-15, MR-proADM and high-sensitive determined troponin, although major outcome studies are still missing.

Liquid biopsy is gaining importance in oncology in the age of precision medicine. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), among other tumor-derived indicators, are isolated and analysed from bodily fluids. EVs are secreted by both healthy and cancerous cells and are lipid bilayer-enclosed particles that are diverse in size and molecular makeup.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa), the most prevalent malignant neoplasm in males, involves complex biological mechanisms and risk factors, many of which remain unidentified. By employing a novel two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach, this study aims to elucidate the causal relationships between the circulating metabolome and PCa risk, utilizing comprehensive data on genetically determined plasma metabolites and metabolite ratios.
Methods: For the MR analysis, we utilized data from the GWAS Catalog database to analyze 1,091 plasma metabolites and 309 ratios in relation to PCa outcomes within two independent GWAS datasets.

Background: The human gut microbiome strongly influences host metabolism by fermenting dietary components into metabolites that signal to the host. Our previous work has shown that Intestinimonas butyriciproducens is a prevalent commensal bacterium with the unique ability to convert dietary fructoselysine to butyrate, a well-known signaling molecule with proven health benefits. Dietary fructoselysine is an abundant Amadori product formed in foods during thermal treatment and is part of foods rich in dietary advanced glycation end products which have been associated with cardiometabolic disease.

Background: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common type of oral cancer with alarmingly high morbidity. The cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) play a pivotal role in tumor development, while their specific mechanisms in OSCC remains largely unclear. Our object is to explore a CAFs-related biomarker in OSCC.

Background: This meta-analysis aimed to summarize the diagnostic accuracy and cut-off values of cytokeratin (CK) 18 measurements, specifically M30 and M65, as candidate biomarkers for the pathological evaluation of biopsy specimens used to stage liver inflammation and fibrosis in patients with chronic liver diseases.
Methods: Databases were searched for studies collected up to January 11th, 2025. Pooled sensitivity, specificity, area under the receiver-operating characteristic curves, and mean cut-off values were calculated using random-effects models regardless of heterogeneity.
