Background: Recently, molecular detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a respiratory specimens is accepted as one of the standard procedures for diagnosis of tuberculosis in Korea. When detecting tuberculosis using a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), results showed the repeated near-cutoff values in a specimen make it difficult for the laboratory to give definitive reports as positive or negative.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated clinical state of ninety-eight patients who were not currently taking antituberculosis medications and had near-cutoff values of respiratory specimens using a real-time PCR test.
Results: Sixty-eight percent of the patients had clinical tuberculosis. In subgroup analysis, patients less than the age of 50, 94.3% had tuberculosis while only 55.6% of the patients with the age of equal and over 50 had tuberculosis (p < 0.001).
Conclusions: Setting a gray zone for real-time PCR result and give additional tailored information onto the interpretative report would be suggested for the clinical practice in an intermediate burden of tuberculosis country.

Unlabelled: Accurate prediction of MCI-to-AD progression is an important yet challenging task. We introduce a new quantitative parameter: the atrophy-weighted standard uptake value ratio (awSUVR), defined as the PET SUVR divided by the hippocampal volume measured with MR, and evaluate whether it may provide better prediction of the MCI-to-AD progression.
Materials And Methods: We used ADNI data to evaluate the prediction performances of the awSUVR against SUVR.

Detection of recurrent chromosome abnormalities by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is an essential component of care in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients. In the province of British Columbia (BC), Canada, population 4.6 million, CLL patients receive uniform evaluation and therapy with FISH testing performed in three jurisdictions.

Accurate classification of nonsmall cell lung cancers is of paramount clinical relevance, as novel chemotherapeutic agents show different efficacy in adenocarcinomas (ADCs) compared with squamous cell carcinomas (SQCCs). Cyto and histomorphology may sometimes be insufficient for this distinction and immunohistochemistry may improve diagnostic accuracy. The measurement of miR-205 may be another tool for the distinction between ADC and SQCC.

Phage libraries displaying cDNA or random peptides have been used for profiling autoantibodies in cancer. The detection of autoantibodies in human sera using phages displaying specific epitopes is usually performed by phage-immobilized ELISAs which can detect specific antibodies without identification of whole antigens. However, these ELISAs can give feeble detection signals that are indistinguishable from background signals which are caused by human sera.
