Interspecies interactions are the basis of microbial community formation and infectious diseases. Systems biology enables the construction of complex models describing such interactions, leading to a better understanding of disease states and communities. However, before interactions between complex organisms can be understood, metabolic and energetic implications of simpler real-world host-microbe systems must be worked out. To this effect, untargeted metabolomics experiments were conducted and integrated with proteomics data to characterize key molecular-level interactions between two hyperthermophilic microbial species, both of which have reduced genomes. Metabolic changes and transfer of metabolites between the archaea and were investigated using integrated LC-MS and NMR metabolomics. The study of such a system is challenging, as no genetic tools are available, growth in the laboratory is challenging, and mechanisms by which they interact are unknown. Together with information about relative enzyme levels obtained from shotgun proteomics, the metabolomics data provided useful insights into metabolic pathways and cellular networks of that are impacted by the presence of , including arginine, isoleucine, and CTP biosynthesis. On the organismal level, the data indicate that exploits metabolites generated by to satisfy its own metabolic needs. This finding is based on 's consumption of a significant fraction of the metabolite pool in that cannot solely be attributed to increased biomass production for . Combining LC-MS and NMR metabolomics datasets improved coverage of the metabolome and enhanced the identification and quantitation of cellular metabolites.

Introduction: Bryophytes are non-vascular plants that appeared on Earth before vascular plants. More than 24,000 species are reported worldwide, and only a small proportion have been studied. However, part of their biosynthetic potential has been unveiled and more than 1,600 terpenoids have been detected and identified.

Introduction: Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a condition characterized by ovarian dysfunction occurring before the age of 40, and its etiology is multifactorial, including genetic, immunological, infectious, environmental, and iatrogenic factors, with over half of the cases remaining unexplained. Whether the microbial communities and metabolites in follicular fluid, which is the direct microenvironment for oocyte survival, are related to POI has not been reported.
Methods: In this study, Follicular fluid samples of 26 patients with POI and 27 controls with a normal ovarian reserve were collected and analyzed using 16S rDNA sequencing and untargeted metabolomics.

Patent foramen ovale (PFO), a cardiac anatomical anomaly inducing abnormal haemodynamics, leads to a paradoxical bypass of the pulmonary circulation. PFO closure might alleviate migraines; however, clinical evidence and basic experiments for the relationship are lacking. To explore the effect of PFO on migraine, 371 migraineurs finishing blood tests and contrast transthoracic echocardiography for the detection of PFO were prospectively included.

This study aimed to evaluate the potential of phytochemicals from two native UAE plant species, Arthrocnemum macrostachyum and Tamarix nilotica, as anti-cancer agents. The plant extracts were obtained using two methods, maceration, and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), and were subsequently evaluated for their in vitro cytotoxicity against three cancer cell lines: breast (MDA-MB-231), colon (HCT-116), and lung (A-549). Results suggest that: 1) MAE is more efficient than maceration in recovering metabolites from plant biomass based on measurements of total phenolic content, radical scavenging activity, and bioactivity of extracts based on in vitro cytotoxicity.
