In this paper I investigate the dynamics of vortex patches in the Yudovitch phase space. I derive an approximation for the evolution of the vorticity in the case of nested vortex patches with distant boundaries, and study its long-time behaviour.

Article Synopsis
  • The paper introduces a new integrated metasurface antenna that combines a radiating patch with a quadru-arc structure to enhance radiation and scattering capabilities.
  • It leverages phase manipulation in the power division feed network and adjustments to the quadru-arc structure for efficient control over radiation and X-polarization scattering functions.
  • Two distinct antenna configurations were tested, achieving impressive gains (16 dBi and 22.3 dBi) and effective vortex beam scattering by optimizing the scattering function through advanced algorithms, followed by successful physical fabrication and measurement of the design.

Flow dynamics and turbulent coherent structures around sediment reduction plates of a sewer system.

In the management of urban drainage networks, great interest has been generated in the removal of sediments from sewer systems. The unsteady three-dimensional (3D) flow and turbulent coherent structures surrounding sediment reduction plates in a sewer system are investigated by means of the detached-eddy simulation (DES). Particular emphasis is given to detailing the instantaneous velocity and vorticity fields within the grooves, along with an examination of the three-dimensional, long-term, average flow structure at a Reynolds number of approximately 10.

To describe the surgical technique and long-term outcomes of a modified split-thickness corneal patch grafting for conjunctival erosions that can be seen in patients with the Port Delivery System (PDS) implant. By way of retrospective review of medical records, this interventional case series identified 2 cases in which modified split-thickness corneal patch grafting was used to repair conjunctival erosion in patients with the PDS implant. The surgical approach involved creating a small opening in the corneal graft over the center of the PDS implant to improve visibility and allow for easier access during subsequent refill-exchange procedures.

Active intensity vortex and stagnation point singularities in a shallow underwater waveguide.

Marine Physical Laboratory, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, California 92093, USA.

Vector acoustic properties of a narrowband acoustic field are observed as a function of range from a source towed in waters of depth 77 m on the New England Mud Patch. At the source frequency (43 Hz), the waveguide supported three trapped modes, with mode 2 weakly excited owing to the towed source depth. The receiving sensor was positioned 1.

When a sailfish circles to corral a school of flying fish in a vortex near the ocean surface, a tiny patch of arced surface waves confined to oppositely placed 70° sectors appears dispersing coherently, but why? It is modeled that, when the fish motions stop suddenly, the corralled school compacts, the tail shed propulsion vortices touch, break and radiate the pressure released from the centrifugal vortex rotation creating an acoustic monopole. The surface-wave patch is a section of the sphere of radiation. The oppositely placed curved bodies of the sailfish and the flying fish act as concave acoustic mirrors about the monopole creating a reverberating bell-shaped cloak in between which vibrates the ear bones and bladders of the flying fish disorienting them.
