Bisphenol A (BPA) is one hormonally active chemical with potential deleterious effects on reproductive organs, including breast and prostate. In contrast, genistein (GEN) is the major phytoestrogen of soy that presents potential protective effects against hormone-dependent cancers, including that of the prostate. Thus, pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with BPA at 25 or 250 μg/kg/day by gavage from gestational day (GD) 10-21 with or without dietary GEN at 250 mg/kg/chow (∼5.5 mg/kg/day). Then, male offspring from different litters were euthanized on post-natal day (PND) 21 and 180. At PND21, BPA 25 exposure induced early prostatic changes while dietary GEN attenuated some deleterious actions this xenoestrogen on epithelial cell proliferation levels, androgen receptor expression and prostatic architecture in male offspring. At PND180, a significant increase in incidence of prostatic multifocal inflammation/reactive hyperplasia and atypical hyperplasia were observed in male offspring from dams that received BPA 25. On the other hand, maternal GEN feeding attenuated some the adverse effects of BPA 25 on prostate disease at late-in-life. This way, the present findings point to preventive action of dietary GEN on deleterious effects of gestational BPA exposure in both early and late prostate development in offspring F1.

Background: Blood flow restriction training (BFRT) can produce effects similar to high-intensity exercise at lower intensities, making it a potentially more suitable method for older adults with sarcopenia. This study aims to determine the efficacy of the intervention on improving physical fitness in older adults with sarcopenia when blood flow restriction (BFR) and aerobic exercise (AE) are combined (BFR-AE) and to explore the related metabolic and signaling mechanisms.
Methods: This is a three-arm, parallel, randomized controlled trial.

Fatty acids are a requirement for normal development, however, since humans are unable to de novo produce essential fatty acids, they must be obtained from diet. Atlantic salmon is a major dietary source of nutritious and digestible fatty acids. Here, we set out to uncover the genomic basis of individual fatty acids and indices (saturated fatty acids, monounsaturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, n-3, and n-6) in 208 North American Atlantic salmon, to understand selection potential toward increasing relative quantities of essential fatty acids and to identify candidate genes for future research.

In recent years, probiotics, as a class of biologically active microorganisms, have increasingly attracted attention for their potential in treating neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). To comprehensively assess the effects of probiotics on clinical symptoms and systemic inflammation regulation in various NDDs, this systematic review conducted a detailed search of the Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science databases, ultimately including 22 eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs), with 4 RCTs for Alzheimer's Disease (AD), 10 RCTs for Parkinson's Disease (PD), 2 RCTs for Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and 2 RCTs for Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and intervention durations ranging from 4 to 16 weeks. The comprehensive analysis indicates that probiotics help improve clinical symptoms related to NDDs, including gastrointestinal function, cognitive function, quality of life, and mental health.

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is the medical term for the combination of at least three of the following factors: obesity, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and hypertension. The spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) is an accepted animal model for the study of human MS that reveals all the features of the syndrome when fed high-fat, high-carbohydrate diets. The intake of high-fat diets in rats has been shown to produce brain neuropathology.
