Aim: The objective of the current study is to increase the dissolution rate of cefuroxime axetil (CA) by formation of binary CA solid dispersion using water soluble carriers such as polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP K30) and polyethylene glycol (PEG 4000).

Methods: Solid dispersions (SDs) between CA and PVP K30/PEG 4000 were formed by dissolving both compounds in a common solvent, methanol, which were rotary evaporated at 40°C for 12 h. Physical mixtures between CA and PVP K30/PEG 4000 were also formulated as to compare the efficiency of SDs. The physicochemical properties of CA and all its formulations were then characterized using differential scanning calorimetric analysis (DSC), powder X-ray diffraction studies (PXRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).

Results: All SD formulations were found to have a higher dissolution rate comparatively to pure CA, while only physical mixtures of PVP K30 were found having a significantly higher dissolution rate. The enhancement of dissolution rate SD by PVP K30 may be caused by increase wettability, solubility, reduction in particle size or the formation of CA β crystalline. Increment of dissolution rate of CA SDs by PEG 4000 similarly may be caused by increase wettability, solubility, and reduction in particle size. This phenomenon may also be caused by amorphization as suggested by DSC and PXRD.

Conclusions: The SD of CA with PVP K30 and PEG 4000, lends an ample credence for better therapeutic efficacy.

Amorphous solid dispersion (ASD) is one of the most studied strategies for improving the dissolution performance of poorly water-soluble drugs, but ASDs often have low drug loadings, thereby necessitating larger dosage sizes. This study intended to create Soluplus® (SOL)-based microparticle ASDs with high drug loading (up to 60 w/w%) and long-term stability (at least 16 months) using electrospraying to enhance the dissolution of poorly water-soluble celecoxib (CEL). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses showed that the electrosprayed SOL-CEL microparticles were amorphous, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) data indicated the presence of hydrogen bonding between SOL and CEL in the microparticles, which helped stabilize the ASDs.

A comprehensive study was conducted to determine the effects of water and ethylene glycol (EG) on biomass pretreatment using a binary deep eutectic solvent (DES) containing choline chloride and acetic acid (1ChCl3AC) at a mole ratio of 1:3. Different quantities of water and EG were combined with 1ChCl3AC to pretreat wheat straw, miscanthus, eucalyptus, and sorghum stalk at 130 °C for 6 h. The changes in nanopore structure and surface roughness of wet biomass, as well as biomass crystallinity after 1ChCl3AC-based pretreatment were investigated using XRD and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS).

Background And Purpose: Liquid self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) face challenges related to stability, handling, and storage. In particular, lipophilic and unstable drugs, such as ramipril (RMP) and thymoquinone (THQ), face challenges in oral administration due to poor aqueous solubility and chemical instability. This study aimed to develop and optimize multi-layer self-nanoemulsifying pellets (ML-SNEP) to enhance the stability and dissolution of ramipril (RMP) and thymoquinone (THQ).

Disulfiram (DSF), which has been traditionally used to treat alcoholism, has been shown to inhibit tumor growth, indicating its potential as an anticancer agent. However, its development and application are hindered by its poor water solubility, instability in physiological environments, and low bioavailability. In this study, phenylboronic acid-chitosan (PBA-CS) grafts were synthesized using the carbodiimide method.

We present a model to describe the concentration-dependent growth of protein filaments. Our model contains two states, a low entropy/high affinity ordered state and a high entropy/low affinity disordered state. Consistent with experiments, our model shows a diffusion-limited linear growth regime at low concentration, followed by a concentration-independent plateau at intermediate concentrations, and rapid disordered precipitation at the highest concentrations.
