N-(2-Acetamido)-2-aminoethanesulfonic acid (ACES), one of Good's buffers, was applied to pH imaging using hyperpolarized (13)C magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Rapid NMR- and MRI-based pH measurements were obtained by exploiting the sensitive pH-dependence of its (13)C chemical shift within the physiologic range.

Understanding the environmental behavior of thallium (Tl) is crucial due to its high toxicity and increasing anthropogenic presence. This study investigated the adsorption and redox behaviors of Tl(I) with acid birnessite (AcBi) in the presence of 1,4-piperazine-diethanesulfonic acid (PIPES) and goethite under diffusion-limited conditions using Donnan reactors in aerobic and anaerobic environments. Our findings indicate that Tl(I) preferentially adsorbs onto AcBi, with capacities 20 to 100 times higher than onto goethite, even when AcBi is partial reduced by PIPES.

Facile Determination of Aluminum Content in Industrial Brine by Investigating the Effects of Buffer Systems.

The aluminum content of concentrated (27 wt%) sodium chloride solutions could be crucial for large-scale chlor-alkali-based industries applying membrane cell electrolysis. Thus, a facile method which enables a fast and reliable protocol to determine the Al content of these solutions on ppb scale in industrial environments is fundamentally important. It was demonstrated that the increased sensitivity of colorful Al-ECR (eriochrome cyanine R) complex by the use of a cationic surfactant and specific biological buffers could effectively indicate the Al content in an extended pH interval of a concentrated saline medium under industrial conditions.

Functional nucleic acids (FNAs) have attracted a lot of attention for the rapid detection of metal ions. Cr is one of the major heavy metal ions in natural waters. Due to the slow ligand exchange rate of Cr, the FNA-based Cr sensors require long assay times, limiting the on-site applications.

Radiopharmaceuticals Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay, Mumbai 400085, India; Homi Bhabha National Institute, Anushaktinagar, Mumbai 400094, India. Electronic address:

Objective: Good's buffer or HEPES has advantages over other buffers commonly used in radiopharmaceutical preparation as it exhibits significantly lower complexation tendency with metal ions. However, use of HEPES buffer for radiolabeling reactions, meant for clinical applications, has been underrated due to the non-availability of sufficient toxicity data. The objective of the present study is to find the evidences towards safety of intravenous administration of HEPES through systemic toxicological studies in small animal model to support its safe application for clinical exploitation.
