Photosensitivity in humans can result from defects in repair of light-induced DNA lesions, from photoactivation of chemicals (including certain medications) with sunlight to produce toxic mediators, and by immune reactions to sunlight exposures. Deficiencies in DNA repair and the processing of damaged DNA during replication and transcription may result in mutations and genomic instability. We will review current understanding of photosensitivity to short wavelength ultraviolet light (UV) due to genetic defects in particular DNA repair pathways; deficiencies in some are characterized by an extremely high incidence of cancer in sun-exposed tissues, while in others no cancers have been reported.

Myelodysplastic Neoplasm (MDS) is a cancer associated with aging, often leading to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). One of its hallmarks is hypermethylation, particularly in genes responsible for DNA repair. This study aimed to evaluate the methylation and mutation status of DNA repair genes (single-strand - XPA, XPC, XPG, CSA, CSB and double-strand - ATM, BRCA1, BRCA2, LIG4, RAD51) in MDS across three patient cohorts (Cohort A-56, Cohort B-100, Cohort C-76), using methods like pyrosequencing, real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry, and mutation screening.

Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) protects the ovarian reserve from chemotherapy, and this effect is most pronounced with Doxorubicin (DOX). However, DOX toxicity and AMH rescue mechanisms in the ovary have remained unclear. Herein, we characterize the consequences of these treatments in ovarian cell types using scRNAseq.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are pluripotent stem cells with self-renewal. They play a critical role in cell therapy due to their powerful immunomodulatory and regenerative effects. Recent studies suggest that one of the key therapeutic mechanisms of MSCs seems to derive from their paracrine product, called extracellular vesicles (EVs).

Among the known nuclear exportins, CRM1 is the most studied prototype. Dysregulation of CRM1 occurs in many cancers, hence, understanding the role of CRM1 in cancer can help in developing synergistic therapeutics. The study investigates how CRM1 affects prostate cancer growth and survival.

Mechanistic Monte Carlo simulations have proven invaluable in tackling complex challenges in radiobiology, for example for protecting astronauts from solar particle events (SPEs) during deep space missions which remains an underexplored area. In this study, the Geant4-DNA Monte Carlo code was used to assess the DNA damage caused by SPEs and evaluate the protective effectiveness of a multilayer shelter. By examining the February 1956 and October 1989 SPEs-two extreme cases-the results showed that the proposed shelter reduced DNA damage by up to 57.
