We present a measurement of the fundamental parameter of the standard model, the weak mixing angle sin^{2}θ_{eff}^{ℓ} which determines the relative strength of weak and electromagnetic interactions, in pp[over ¯]→Z/γ^{*}→e^{+}e^{-} events at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV, using data corresponding to 9.7 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The effective weak mixing angle is extracted from the forward-backward charge asymmetry as a function of the invariant mass around the Z boson pole. The measured value of sin^{2}θ_{eff}^{ℓ}=0.23147±0.00047 is the most precise measurement from light quark interactions to date, with a precision close to the best LEP and SLD results.

Substrate-Mediated Growth of Au Nanowires Under Weak CTAB Control and Rapid Au Deposition.

Small Methods

December 2024

Institute of Advanced Synthesis (IAS) and School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, Jiangsu National Synergetic Innovation Centre for Advanced Materials, Nanjing Tech University, Nanjing, 211816, China.

The selective Au deposition at the Au-substrate interface is known to give ultrathin Au nanowires and the synthesis usually employs strong thiol-based ligands. It is shown that, by increasing the rate of Au deposition, weak cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) can be made to behave like a strong ligand, so that it induces Active Surface Growth and gives Au nanowires. The ligand strength also depends on the packing interactions in the ligand layer, in the order of CTAB, CTAB, and CTAB.

Primary Care Academy: lessons learned from a large-scale innovative primary care project.

Front Public Health

December 2024

Frailty in Ageing Research Group, Department Gerontology, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Brussels, Belgium.

Introduction And Context: The social and healthcare system faces numerous challenges, with primary care playing a key role in achieving universal and equitable health coverage. However, the primary care field often struggles with limited research capacity, activity, and funding.

The Primary Care Academy: To address these gaps, the Primary Care Academy (PCA) - a large-scale, innovative, interdisciplinary research and networking organization, encompassing then organization in the primary care field, was established and funded in 2019 by the Fund Dr.

One-dimensional (1D) functional nanowires are widely used as nanoscale building blocks for assembling advanced nanodevices due to their unique functionalities. However, previous research has mainly focused on nanowire functionality, while neglecting the structural stability and damage resistance of nanowire assemblies, which are critical for the long-term operation of nanodevices. Biomaterials achieve excellent mechanical stability and damage resistance through sophisticated structural design.

Plasma phosphorylated tau and neuropsychiatric symptoms in dementia with Lewy bodies.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing, Department of Psychological Medicine, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience, King's College London, London, UK.

Introduction: Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPSs) are common in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) but their neurobiological mechanisms are poorly understood.

Methods: NPSs and cognition were assessed annually in participants (DLB n = 222; Alzheimer's disease [AD] n = 125) from the European DLB (E-DLB) Consortium, and plasma phosphorylated tau-181 (p-tau181) and p-tau231 concentrations were measured at baseline.

Results: Hallucinations, delusions, and depression were more common in DLB than in AD and, in a subgroup with longitudinal follow-up, persistent hallucinations and NPSs were associated with lower p-tau181 and p-tau231 in DLB.

Longitudinal analysis of predictors of electronic cigarette trial among adolescents in Guatemala.

Addict Behav

December 2024

Department of Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior, University of South Carolina, Columbia 29208, SC, USA. Electronic address:

Background: Understanding factors influencing electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) trial in adolescents is crucial for shaping policies and interventions to reduce consumption and potentially prevent addictive tendencies, particularly in countries with weak regulations like Guatemala.

Objective: We aimed to longitudinally assess predictors of e-cigarette trial among Guatemalan adolescents surveyed in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Methods: Students (13 to 18 years old) from nine private schools completed self-administered questionnaires about e-cigarette use and associated risk factors.
