The charge state of Ag and Au atoms and clusters (Ag4 and Au4, Ag5 and Au5) adsorbed on defective TiO2 anatase(101) and tetragonal ZrO2(101) has been systematically investigated as a function of oxide doping and defectivity using a DFT+U approach. As intrinsic defects, we have considered the presence of oxygen vacancies. As extrinsic defects, substitutional nitrogen- and niobium-doping have been investigated, respectively. Both surface and sub-surface defects and dopants have been considered. Whereas on surfaces with oxygen vacancies or Nb-doping, atoms and clusters may become negatively charged, N-doping always leads to the formation of positively charged adsorbates, independently of the supporting material (TiO2 or ZrO2). This suggests the possibility to tune the electronic properties of supported metal clusters by selective doping of the oxide support, an effect that may result in complete changes in chemical reactivity.

Molecular Property Prediction (MPP) is a fundamental task in important research fields such as chemistry, materials, biology, and medicine, where traditional computational chemistry methods based on quantum mechanics often consume substantial time and computing power. In recent years, machine learning has been increasingly used in computational chemistry, in which graph neural networks have shown good performance in molecular property prediction tasks, but they have some limitations in terms of generalizability, interpretability, and certainty. In order to address the above challenges, a Multiscale Molecular Structural Neural Network (MMSNet) is proposed in this paper, which obtains rich multiscale molecular representations through the information fusion between bonded and non-bonded "message passing" structures at the atomic scale and spatial feature information "encoder-decoder" structures at the molecular scale; a multi-level attention mechanism is introduced on the basis of theoretical analysis of molecular mechanics in order to enhance the model's interpretability; the prediction results of MMSNet are used as label values and clustered in the molecular library by the K-NN (K-Nearest Neighbors) algorithm to reverse match the spatial structure of the molecules, and the certainty of the model is quantified by comparing virtual screening results across different K-values.

Energy-efficient separation of light alkanes from alkenes is considered as one of the most important separations of the chemical industry today due to the high energy penalty associated with the applied conventional cryogenic technologies. This study introduces fluorine-doped activated carbon adsorbents, where elemental fluorine incorporation into the carbon matrix plays a unique role in achieving high ethane selectivity. This enhanced selectivity arises from specific interactions between surface-doped fluorine atoms and ethane molecules, coupled with porosity modulation.

Delocalized multicenter bonds play a crucial role in clusters with a planar hypercoordinate center(s), making it difficult for highly electronegative elements, especially halogen atoms, to achieve the planar hypercoordinate arrangement. Herein, we introduce a star-like cluster Br6Li5-, whose global minimum contains a planar pentacoordinate bromine (ppBr). In this cluster, the central ppBr atom coordinates with five alkali metal Li atoms, which in turn bridge an equal number of electronegative Br atoms in the periphery, leading to the formation of the binary cluster Br6Li5-.

A major goal of cancer biology is to understand the mechanisms driven by somatically acquired mutations. Two distinct methodologies-one analyzing mutation clustering within protein sequences and 3D structures, the other leveraging protein-protein interaction network topology-offer complementary strengths. We present NetFlow3D, a unified, end-to-end 3D structurally-informed protein interaction network propagation framework that maps the multiscale mechanistic effects of mutations.
