Implementation Strategies and Ergonomic Factors in Robot-assisted Microsurgery.

J Robot Surg

January 2025

BG Trauma Center Ludwigshafen, Department for Plastic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery, Department of Plastic Surgery for the Heidelberg University, Ludwig-Guttmann-Straße 13, 67071, Ludwigshafen, Germany.

Robot-assisted surgery represents a significant innovation in reconstructive microsurgery, providing enhanced precision and reduced surgeon fatigue. This study examines the integration of robotic assistance in a series of 85 consecutive robot-assisted microsurgical (RAMS) operations. It aims to evaluate changes in the integration of RAMS during the implementation phase in a single institution.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Rush Alzheimer's Disease Center, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, IL, USA.

Background: Hemoglobin A1C (A1C) is a measure of long-term glycemic control. In a previous study using a single measure of A1C, we showed that it is related to postmortem cerebrovascular pathology. Here, we use annually collected A1C data to study the relationship of A1C average and variability over time with neuropathology in a large number of older adults with and without diabetes.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Division of Geriatrics, Department of Internal Medicine, University of Sao Paulo Medical School, São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil.

Background: The atherosclerotic plaque in carotid arteries has been associated with dementia. Clinic radiological studies in older adults suggest that the composition of atherosclerotic plaque in the carotid artery can predict vascular dementia (VD) or mixed dementia. The proposed study aims to assess components of atherosclerotic plaques in the carotid arteries, particularly concerning cerebrovascular lesions using racially diverse autopsy samples.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, USA.

Background: Identification of cell-type vulnerability in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is critical to the clinical development of targeted treatments. Neurodegeneration of the subiculum (SUB) is an early biomarker of AD, but it is unknown if specific SUB cell-types are susceptible to AD neurodegeneration. In the 5xFAD mouse model, significant cell loss occurs within the SUB by 8 months of age.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Stark Neurosciences Research Institute, Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, IN, USA.

Background: Plaques are a hallmark feature of Alzheimer's disease (AD). We found the loss of mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells and its antigen-presenting molecule MR1 caused a delay in plaque pathology development in AD mouse models. However, it remains unknown how this axis is impacting microglial response and dystrophic neurites.
