Vps4a Mediates a Unified Membrane Repair Machinery to Attenuate Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury.

Circ Res

January 2025

Center for Genetic Medicine, the Fourth Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Yiwu, China (X.H., J.Z., C.X., R.C., P.J., X.J., P.H.).

Background: Cardiac ischemia/reperfusion disrupts plasma membrane integrity and induces various types of programmed cell death. The ESCRT (endosomal sorting complex required for transport) proteins, particularly AAA-ATPase Vps4a (vacuolar protein sorting 4a), play an essential role in the surveillance of membrane integrity. However, the role of ESCRT proteins in the context of cardiac injury remains unclear.

Climate Change Drives Changes in the Size and Composition of Fungal Communities Along the Soil-Seedling Continuum of Schima superba.

Mol Ecol

January 2025

ECNU-Alberta Joint Lab for Biodiversity Study, Tiantong Forest Ecosystem National Observation and Research Station, School of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, East China Normal University, Shanghai, China.

Plant microbiomes have a major influence on forest structure and functions, as well as tree fitness and evolution. However, a comprehensive understanding of variations in fungi along the soil-plant continuum, particularly within tree seedlings, under global warming is lacking. Here, we investigated the dynamics of fungal communities across different compartments (including bulk soil and rhizosphere soil) and plant organs (including the endosphere of roots, stems and leaves) of Schima superba seedlings exposed to experimental warming and drought using AccuITS absolute quantitative sequencing.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the possible impacts of fasting on physical activity and weight loss in adult users of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists, specifically semaglutide and tirzepatide, using qualitative methods to gain in-depth insights into participants' experiences and perceptions.

Patients And Methods: A qualitative study was conducted at the Polyclinic at King Faisal University, Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, during and after Ramadan in 2024, along with the completion of International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQs). The semi-structured interviews and the IPAQ were used to assess physical activity levels.

Sudden gains in internet cognitive therapy for social anxiety disorder in routine clinical practice.

Internet Interv

December 2024

Oxford Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma (OxCADAT), Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford, The Old Rectory, Paradise Square, Oxford OX1 1TW, UK.

Background: Sudden gains are large symptom improvements between consecutive therapy sessions. They have been shown to occur in randomised controlled trials of internet-delivered psychological interventions, but little is known about their occurrence when such treatments are delivered in routine clinical practice.

Objective: This study examined the occurrence of sudden gains in a therapist-guided internet-delivered Cognitive Therapy intervention for social anxiety disorder (iCT-SAD) delivered in the UK NHS talking therapies for anxiety and depression (formerly known as IAPT services).

Bariatric surgery stands as the most potent treatment for achieving substantial weight reduction and alleviating the complications associated with obesity. However, it is not the treatment of choice for patients with obesity combined with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and the benefit of bariatric surgery varies widely among individuals. There is a noticeable inconsistency in the outcomes following these procedures.
