We present a framework for intrinsic comparison of surface metric structures and curvatures. This work parallels the work of Kurtek et al. on parameterization-invariant comparison of genus zero shapes. Here, instead of comparing the embedding of spherically parameterized surfaces in space, we focus on the first fundamental form. To ensure that the distance on spherical metric tensor fields is invariant to parameterization, we apply the conjugation-invariant metric arising from the L2 norm on symmetric positive definite matrices. As a reparameterization changes the metric tensor by a congruent Jacobian transform, this metric perfectly suits our purpose. The result is an intrinsic comparison of shape metric structure that does not depend on the specifics of a spherical mapping. Further, when restricted to tensors of fixed volume form, the manifold of metric tensor fields and its quotient of the group of unitary diffeomorphisms becomes a proper metric manifold that is geodesically complete. Exploiting this fact, and augmenting the metric with analogous metrics on curvatures, we derive a complete Riemannian framework for shape comparison and reconstruction. A by-product of our framework is a near-isometric and curvature-preserving mapping between surfaces. The correspondence is optimized using the fast spherical fluid algorithm. We validate our framework using several subcortical boundary surface models from the ADNI dataset.

Groundwater nitrate response to hydrogeological conditions and socioeconomic load in an agriculture dominated area.

Sci Rep

January 2025

School of Water and Environment, Chang'an University, No.126 Yanta Road, Xi'an, 710054, Shaanxi, China.

Nitrate pollution is widespread environmental concern in most shallow groundwater systems. This study conducts a comprehensive investigation of shallow groundwater, deep groundwater, and surface water in a region of the Chinese Loess Plateau. Nitrate pollution in this area is severe with more than half of the shallow groundwater samples exceeding the limit of nitrate for drinking water (50 mg/L).

Facioscapulohumeral dystrophy type 1 (FSHD1) displays prominent intra- and interfamilial variability, which complicates the phenotype-genotype correlation. In this retrospective study, we investigated FSHD1 patients classified as category D according to the Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation Form (CCEF), a category defined by FSHD patients showing uncommon clinical features, to identify genetic causes explaining these uncommon phenotypes. Demographics, clinical data and clinical scales of FSHD1 patients were retrospectively evaluated.

People with immunocompromising conditions (IC) are at increased risk of severe COVID-19 and death. These individuals show weaker immunogenicity following vaccination than individuals without IC, yet immunogenicity after SARS-CoV-2 infection is poorly understood. To address this gap, the presence of infection-induced antibodies in sera following a positive COVID-19 test result was compared between patients with and without IC.

We describe a modification of a previously described measurement-analysis protocol to determine the intrinsic properties of triaxial accelerometers by using a measurement protocol based on angular stepwise rotation in the Earth's gravitational field. This study was conducted with MEMS triaxial accelerometers that were co-integrated in four consumer-grade wireless microsensors. The measurements were carried out on low-cost rotation tables in different laboratories in different countries to simulate the reproducibility environment encountered in inter-comparisons of calibration capabilities.

Asymmetric Cyclic Controlled Quantum Teleportation via Multiple-Qubit Entangled State in a Noisy Environment.

Entropy (Basel)

December 2024

Information Science and Technology College, Dalian Maritime University, Dalian 116026, China.

In this paper, by using eleven entangled quantum states as a quantum channel, we propose a cyclic and asymmetric novel protocol for four participants in which both Alice and Bob can transmit two-qubit states, and Charlie can transmit three-qubit states with the assistance of the supervisor David, who provides a guarantee for communication security. This protocol is based on GHZ state measurement (GHZ), single-qubit measurement (SM), and unitary operations (UO) to implement the communication task. The analysis demonstrates that the success probability of the proposed protocol can reach 100%.
