Objective: The present study aims to investigate the relationship between CYP2J2 gene polymorphisms and ischemic stroke (IS) in a Chinese Han population.
Methods: We performed a case-control study including 300 stroke patients and 300 healthy control subjects to compare the distribution of genetic polymorphism G-50T in CYP2J2 gene.
Results: We found GT genotype of G-50T in CYP2J2 gene was associated with the risk for IS (13.7% vs. 7.7%, P = 0.037). After adjustment of confounders, the difference remains significant (OR = 1.890, 95% CI: 1.042-3.011).
Conclusion: CYP2J2 gene polymorphism might increase the risk of stroke in Chinese population.

The morbidity and mortality rates of prostate cancer (PCa) are high among elderly men worldwide. Several factors, such as heredity, obesity, and environment are associated with the occurrence of PCa. Cigarette smoking, which is also an important factor in the development of PCa, can lead to genetic alterations and consequently promote PCa development.

Introduction: One of the novel strategies in cancer treatment is the combination of conventional chemotherapeutic drugs and natural products. In a previous study, co-treatment of the anti-cancer drug cyclophosphamide (CP) with honey from giant honey bee () resulted to a dose-dependent increase in its cytotoxic effect in human lung carcinoma (A549) cells. However, the molecular mechanism of this combinatorial effect remains unknown.

Background: It is believed that alterations in the functioning of the cytochrome P450 (CYP), which participates in metabolic transformations of endogenous polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) (with the formation of cardioprotective or cardiotoxic products), affects the development of age-related cardiovascular diseases and reduces the effectiveness of some cardioselective drugs. For example, CYP2J2 activation or CYP1B1 inhibition protects against the cardiovascular toxicity of anticancer drugs. It is currently unclear whether CYPs capable of metabolizing arachidonic acid and ω-3 PUFAs to vasodilatory and vasoconstrictive derivatives are expressed in all heart regions.

Austocystin D is a natural compound that induces cytochrome P450 (CYP) monooxygenase-dependent DNA damage and growth inhibition in certain cancer cell lines. Cancer cells exhibiting higher sensitivity to austocystin D often display elevated CYP2J2 expression. However, the essentiality and the role of CYP2J2 for the cytotoxicity of this compound remain unclear.
