Anaesthesia for paediatric radiotherapy: A narrative review.

Anaesthesia

January 2025

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester, UK.

Introduction: Radiotherapy is currently used in approximately one-third of children with cancer. Treatments are typically received as weekday outpatient appointments over 3-6 weeks. The treatment is painless but requires a still, co-operative patient who can lie alone in set positions, facilitated by the use of immobilisation devices, for up to 1 h.

Purpose: High Fascial Compartment Pressure (HCP) is one of the most common complications in ankle fractures. This study aimed to investigate the incidence of HCP in pilon fracture and analyze the risk factors of HCP in order to closely monitor its further development into Acute Compartment Syndrome. A nomogram is constructed and validated to predict HCP in patients with pilon fracture.

Background And Objectives: The study focused on the amylase enzyme, widely used in the industrial starch liquefaction process. We looked into the best way to immobilize the native strain , which is the only alpha-amylase-producing bacterium, by trapping it in calcium alginate gel. This is a promising way to increase enzyme output.

The ethical issues surrounding sacrifice methods in animal experimentation have garnered increasing attention, making immobilization and sedation an integral part of the sacrifice process for experimental animals. Currently, internationally recognized general sacrifice methods for commonly used laboratory animals have been established, but there remains significant controversy over the sacrifice methods for turtles. To explore the effectiveness of various immobilization methods and their impact on stress-related indicators in turtles, this study used red-eared sliders (Trachemys scripta elegans) as subjects.
