Ginsenoside Ro (Ro), an oleanolic acid-type ginsenoside, exhibited suppressive activities on reactive oxygen species (ROS) and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) elevation in UV-B-irradiated fibroblasts. Ro could overcome the reduction of the total glutathione (GSH) contents in UV-B-irradiated fibroblasts. Ro could not interfere with cell viabilities in UV-B-irradiated fibroblasts. Collectively, Ro possesses a potential skin anti-photoaging property against UV-B radiation in fibroblasts.

We developed a facile preparation method of oil-in-water (O/W) Pickering emulsion in an emollient formulation using basil extract ( L.) as a solid particle stabilizer by fine-tuning the concentration and mixing steps of common cosmetic formulas, such as humectants (hexylene glycol and glycerol), surfactant (Tween 20), and moisturizer (urea). The hydrophobicity of the main phenolic compounds of basil extract (BE), namely, salvigenin, eupatorin, rosmarinic acid, and lariciresinol, supported high interfacial coverage to prevent coalescence of globules.

Background: DNA is the main target for UV-B-irradiation-induced skin photodamage and accounts for 90 % of all the non-melanoma skin cancers.
Purpose: In this study, we explored the mechanistic basis of photoprotective effect of Trigonelline, a naturally occurring alkaloid from the Trigonella foenum-graecum, against UV-B-induced oxidative DNA Damage Response using Primary Human Dermal Fibroblasts (HDFs) and BALB/C mice as models of skin photodamage.
Methods: Primary HDFs were subjected to UV-B exposure (10 mJ/cm) with or without TG for 24 h.

Aged garlic extract (AGE) has been shown to protect the skin against UV-induced damage, but effects of its volatile components remain unknown. We investigated the effects of the volatile fraction of AGE on the responses of cultured skin fibroblasts subjected to UV-B irradiation. UV-B irradiation (20 mJ/cm ) reduced the cell viability to 55% of control.
