Hypochlorous acid (HOCl), made by neutrophil-derived myeloperoxidase, has been suggested to inhibit platelets, however, the mechanisms involved have not been described. Here we confirm that HOCl exposure changes platelet morphology and inhibits platelet spreading and aggregation. HOCl effects could be reversed by glutathione suggesting a role for cysteine oxidation.

Introduction: The Septin family of cytoskeletal proteins is abundant in platelets. When these proteins are functionally blocked using the compound forchlorfenuron (FCF), it hampers the normal activation processes of purified human platelets.
Objectives: To evaluate the in vivo effects of FCF on physiological haemostasis and pathological thrombosis in mice and to investigate possible molecular mechanisms.

Introduction: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) has been increasingly adopted in orthopaedic surgery. Although not an exclusion criterion, patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with preoperative severe varus deformity may be less likely to be enrolled for ERAS. This study aimed to compare the success of ERAS TKA between patients with severe preoperative varus deformities (≥ 15° varus) and the control group (< 15° varus to 14° valgus).
