Background: This study was designed to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of metallic clips assisted with foreign body forceps closing the gastric wall defect after endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFR) for gastric submucosal tumors (SMTs).

Methods: Eighteen patients with gastric SMTs originated from the muscularis propria were treated by EFR between September 2012 and June 2014. Twelve patients underwent endoscopic closure of the gastric wall defects after EFR with endoloop and metallic clips (endoloop string suture method, ESSM), and six patients with clips and foreign body forceps (clips assisted with foreign body forceps clip method, CFCM).

Results: No significant differences existed between the two groups in terms of demographics, clinical characteristics, and the size of the gastric wall defects. The average time spent in closing the gastric wall defects (14.83 ± 1.94 min for the CFCM group and 22.42 ± 5.73 min for the ESSM group) and hospitalization fees of the CFCM group were significantly lower than those of the ESSM group. The average hospitalization time of the two groups had no statistical significance. No single case had surgical intervention or complications, such as gastric bleeding, perforation, peritonitis, or abdominal abscess.

Conclusion: The CFCM and the ESSM are safe and effective techniques for gastric defect closure after EFR for gastric SMTs. Because of the "chopsticks effect," the CFCM more suitable for the lesions located at the gastric fundus, the greater curvature or anterior wall of the gastric body and gastric antrum.

Optical fibers are between the most common implantable devices for delivering light in the nervous system for optogenetics and infrared neural stimulation applications. Tapered optical fibers, in particular, can offer homogeneous light delivery to a large volume and spatially resolved illumination compared to standard flat-cleaved fibers while being minimally invasive. However, the use of tapers for neural applications has up to now been limited to silica optical fibers, whose large Young's modulus can cause detrimental foreign body response in chronic settings.

Background: Infrared thermography technology is a diagnostic imaging modality that converts temperature information on the surface of the human body into visualised thermograms. This technology has the capacity to intuitively detect the presence of certain abnormal conditions or foci in the human body. In recent years, the application of this technology in medicine has become increasingly extensive, especially in the areas of auxiliary diagnosis and early screening of diseases.

Background: A broken bur retained in the lower jaw is an uncommon complication that occurs during the extraction of the impacted mandibular third molar. The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate the clinical characteristics of the broken burs and review our experience with the removal of the broken burs in these cases.

Methods: All patients, who suffered the broken bur remained in the lower jaw due to the extraction of the impacted mandibular third molar and presented to our hospital from July 2019 to July 2024, were included in this retrospective study.

Bilobectomy for the extraction of an aspirated foreign body (FB) is a major surgical procedure and is exceedingly rare. We present a case of a 16-year-old male with a prolonged history of recurring chest infections, which had been treated as community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). A thorough review of medical history and diagnostic imaging studies revealed that the patient had experienced a foreign body aspiration (FBA) involving a push pin four years ago.
