In this work, a Fabry-Perot cavity based on a new silica tube design is proposed. The tube presents a cladding with a thickness of ~14 μm and a hollow core. The presence of four small rods, of ~20 μm diameter each, placed in diametrically opposite positions ensure the mechanical stability of the tube. The cavity, formed by splicing a section of the silica tube between two sections of single mode fiber, is characterized in strain and temperature (from room temperature to 900 °C). When the sensor is exposed to high temperatures, there is a change in the response to strain. The influence of the thermal annealing is investigated in order to improve the sensing head performance.

Layered sulfide crystals are suitable hosts for lithium and sodium ions in batteries. In this study, new layered lithium titanium sulfide (LTS) crystals were grown in a sealed silica tube using a LiS self-flux at 800-950 °C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis results indicated the formation of a new sulfide phase with higher symmetry in the Li-Ti-S system.

In this study, 4-vinylphenylboronic acid, ionic liquid, and dipentaerythritolhexakis(3-mercaptopropionate) were used as functional monomers to prepare monolithic column in fused-silica capillaries by thermally induced sulfhydryl-alkenyl click polymerization. Based on the properties of 4-vinylphenylboronic acid and ionic liquid, the monolithic capillary column (VPBA-SH-IL) exhibited excellent permeability and chemical stability with the ability to efficiently enrich trace amounts of cytokinins from complex substrates via B←N coordination, π-π interactions, cation-π interactions, S-π interactions and hydrophobic interactions. Under the optimal adsorption conditions, the adsorption efficiency of VPBA-SH-IL for six cytokinins could reach more than 95 %, and the adsorption capacities ranged from 0.
