Suspended sediments in water bodies are classified into organic and inorganic matter and have been investigated by remote-sensing technology for years. Focusing on inorganic matter, however, detailed information such as the grain size of this matter has not been provided yet. In this study, we present a new solution for estimating inorganic suspended sediments' size distribution in highly complex Case 2 waters by using a simple spectrometer sensor rather than a backscattering sensor. An experiment was carried out in the Pearl River Estuary (PRE) in the dry season to collect the remote-sensing reflectance (R) and particle size distribution (PSD) of inorganic suspended sediments. Based on Mie theory, PSDs in the PRE waters were retrieved by R, colored dissolved organic matter, and phytoplankton. The retrieved median diameters in 12 stations show good agreement with those of laboratory analysis at root mean square error of 2.604 μm (27.63%), bias of 1.924 μm (20.42%), and mean absolute error of 2.298 μm (24.37%). The retrieved PSDs and previous PSDs were compared, and the features of PSDs in the PRE waters were concluded.

Background: The Vero cell rabies vaccine is currently the most widely used human rabies vaccine. However, owing to the presence of residual host cell DNA (HCD) in the final product and the potential tumorigenicity of the DNA of high-passage Vero cells, the WHO not only sets a limit on the number of times cells used in production can be passaged, but also imposes strict requirements on the amount of residual HCD in the final vaccine product.

Objectives: To systematically reduce the HCD level in the final vaccine product, multiple purification steps are included in the vaccine production process.

CloudSim is a versatile simulation framework for modeling cloud infrastructure components that supports customizable and extensible application provisioning strategies, allowing for the simulation of cloud services. On the other hand, Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) is a ubiquitous technique used for measuring vibrations over an extended region. Data handling in DAS remains an open issue, as many applications need continuous monitoring of a volume of samples whose storage and processing in real time require high-capacity memory and computing resources.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled vehicular communications in the sixth generation (6G) are characterized by line-of-sight (LoS) and dynamically varying channel conditions. However, the presence of obstacles in the LoS path leads to shadowed fading environments. In UAV-assisted cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) communication, vehicle and UAV mobility and shadowing adversely impact latency and throughput.

Satellite SAR (synthetic aperture radar) imagery offers global coverage and all-weather recording capabilities, making it valuable for applications like remote sensing and maritime surveillance. However, its use in machine learning-based automatic target classification faces challenges, including the limited availability of SAR target training samples and the inherent constraints of SAR images, which provide less detailed features compared to natural images. These issues hinder the effective training of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and complicate the transfer learning process due to the distinct imaging mechanisms of SAR and natural images.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs), including exosomes, are promising pharmaceutical modalities. They are purified from cell culture supernatant; however, the preparation may contain EVs with the desired therapeutic effects and different types of EVs, lipoproteins, and soluble proteins. Evaluating the composition of particulate impurities and the levels of protein impurities in final preparations is critical for quality control.
