The effect of matrix albumin concentration on reduction of NBT by DMF has been investigated together with the effect of cationic additives. Decreased albumin concentration and increased cationic detergent concentration both increased the sensitivity of the assay due to kinetic effects, but addition of a low molecular weight cation had no effect. The reduction of NBT by glycated albumin was not increased in sensitivity by a protein matrix of low concentration. Due to the complexity and poorly understood nature of interaction between DMF and albumin in the reduction of NBT, the authors do not consider DMF to be a suitable primary calibrant for the fructosamine assay.

Leukopenia, marked by diminished white blood cell (WBC) counts, presents significant challenges in the management of hematological malignancies and immunocompromised patients. This study evaluated the therapeutic potential of miltefosine (MFS), a phospholipid analogue, for treating leukopenia. In vitro studies using HL60 and NB4 cells revealed that MFS effectively promoted neutrophil differentiation and function, evidenced by the upregulation of surface markers CD11b, CD11c, CD14, and CD15, as well as enhanced bactericidal activity assessed through the NBT reduction assay.

This study aimed to evaluate differences in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by peripheral blood neutrophils in healthy dogs, dogs with superficial pyoderma, and dogs with sterile neutrophilic dermatitis using the nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction test. Additionally, the study assessed the potential of the NBT reduction test as a diagnostic tool to differentiate between these clinical conditions. A total of 28 dogs were divided into three groups: healthy (n = 10), superficial pyoderma (n = 10), and sterile neutrophilic dermatitis (n = 8).

The present research compares the stability, catalytic activity, and cardioprotective benefits of the designed superoxide dismutase (SOD) variation SOD-M3 to those of the naturally occurring enzyme, along with additional alternatives. SOD-M3 exhibited a 51.5 % increase in expression yield, reaching 50 mg/L, compared to the wild-type's 33 mg/L.

Uric acid (UA) serves as an important biochemical marker of various diseases, making the development of a novel method for its rapid and straightforward visual detection highly valuable. In this study, a uricase-based cellulose membrane biosensor (UCMB) was constructed by immobilizing uricase via a Schiff base reaction and nitroblue tetrazolium chloride (NBT) through adsorption. The UCMB detects UA through a mechanism in which uricase catalyzes the oxidation of UA, generation O radicals that subsequently oxidize NBT to formazan, producing a distinctive color change from yellow to purple.

We studied the radical-binding and antioxidant activities of the alkaloid tryptanthrin (TR) and its new synthetic derivative tryptanthrin oxime (TR-Ox), as well as the cytoprotective activity of TR-Ox under conditions of oxidative stress. The antiradical activity of TR-Ox was revealed in the test of binding with stable chromogen radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and in the superoxide radical generation test (riboflavin photoreduction reaction with detection by NBT reduction). TR-Ox was inferior to ionol and dihydroquercetin by the antiradical activity.
