AI Article Synopsis

  • Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of global mortality, making it crucial to study public awareness of risk factors and cardiovascular risks as a preventive strategy.
  • A cross-sectional study involving 369 participants examined sociodemographic variables in relation to cardiovascular risk using the SCORE table.
  • While 49.6% of participants were men and 50.4% were women, most had low awareness of their actual cardiovascular risk, despite having good knowledge about diabetes and reasonable awareness of hypertension and hypercholesterolemia.

Article Abstract

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are responsible for the largest burden of global mortality. The study of the degree of knowledge of their population risk factors and cardiovascular risk is a priority preventive strategy.

Material And Methods: A cross-sectional study with 369 people was performed. The sociodemographic variables were cardiovascular risk and perception as well as physical and anthropometric factors. The risk was stratified with the SCORE table.

Results: A total of 49.6% were men and 50.4% were women. The proportion of diagnosis was 23.8% in HTA, 39% in hypercholesterolemia, 31.4% in smoking, 26.3% in obesity and 4.6% in diabetes. Concordance between perceived and real cardiovascular risk was very weak.

Discussion: The population has good knowledge about diabetes and acceptable knowledge about hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia but knowledge in prediabetic states and perception of the associated cardiovascular risk is low.

Background: Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) is a severe and potentially life-threatening complication in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), significantly affecting prognosis during hospitalization. Early identification of high-risk patients is essential to reduce complications, improve outcomes, and guide clinical decision-making.

Objective: This study aimed to develop and validate a machine learning (ML)-based model for predicting in-hospital GIB in patients with AMI, identify key risk factors, and evaluate the clinical applicability of the model for risk stratification and decision support.

Cardiovascular and cardiometabolic diseases are leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, driven in part by chronic inflammation. Emerging research suggests that the bone marrow microenvironment, or marrow niche, plays a critical role in both immune system regulation and disease progression. The bone marrow niche is essential for maintaining hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and orchestrating hematopoiesis.

Introduction: Aortic stenosis (AS) and pulmonic stenosis (PS) are two of the most common canine congenital heart diseases (CHD), with a high relative risk for Newfoundland dogs to develop inherited subvalvular AS. For this reason, a cardiovascular screening program has been set up by the French Newfoundland kennel club in order to manage mattings and reduce AS prevalence.

Materials And Methods: The records of untreated and non-anesthetized adult Newfoundland dogs screened between 2010 and 2023 were retrospectively reviewed.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of the leading health problems in the world. It is silent in the early stages and gradually progresses, inducing renal physiological and structural alterations. Moreover, CKD is associated with impaired life quality, increased risk for cardiovascular diseases, and reduced life expectancy.

Risk calculators based on statistical and/or mechanistic models have flourished and are increasingly available for a variety of diseases. However, in the day-to-day practice, their usage may be hampered by missing input variables. Certain measurements needed to calculate disease risk may be difficult to acquire, e.
