•During 2010-2013, the age-adjusted stroke death rate for non-Hispanic black men aged 45 and over (154.8 deaths per 100,000 population) was 54% to 68% higher than the rates for men of the same age in other race-ethnicity groups. The rate for non-Hispanic black women aged 45 and over was 30% to 61% higher than the rates for women of the same age in other race-ethnicity groups. •The age distribution of stroke deaths differed by race and ethnicity. •Stroke death rates were 32% higher in counties in the lowest median household income quartile than in counties in the highest income quartile. •Nonmetropolitan counties had higher stroke death rates than counties at other urbanization levels. •Stroke mortality inside and outside the Stroke Belt differed by race and ethnicity.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate whether the hybrid technique yields superior outcomes in comparison with the total arch replacement combined with frozen elephant trunk (TAR + FET) for acute aortic dissection (AAD) involving the aortic arch.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study using propensity-score matching included patients with AAD involving the aortic arch admitted to Nanjing First Hospital and Shanghai General Hospital from January 2015 to June 2020. The in-hospital and mid-term outcomes were compared between patients who received hybrid treatment (n = 136) and those who received TAR + FET (n = 415).
Aims: Long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM) is causally associated with mortality and cardiovascular disease. However, in terms of cardiovascular cause-specific outcomes, there are fewer studies about stroke than about coronary heart disease, particularly in Asia. Furthermore, there remains uncertainty regarding the PM-respiratory disease association.

Aims: Evidence supporting the prescription of anticoagulant therapy for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been limited, and its clinical application in this context remains controversial.
Methods: We identified AF patients with advanced CKD (G4-G5) and a history of stroke who were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University between January 1, 2011, and June 30, 2023. Patients were classified into warfarin, non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant (NOAC), antiplatelet therapy, and control (no antithrombotic therapy) groups.

Background: As percutaneous therapeutic options expand, the optimal management of severe aortic stenosis (AS) and concomitant coronary artery disease (CAD) is being questioned between coronary artery bypass grafting and surgical aortic valve replacement (CABG+SAVR) versus percutaneous coronary intervention and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (PCI+TAVR). We sought to compare perioperative and longitudinal risk-adjusted outcomes between patients undergoing CABG+SAVR versus PCI+TAVR.
Methods: Using the United States Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services inpatient claims database, we evaluated all patient age 65 and older with AS and CAD undergoing CABG+SAVR or PCI+TAVR (2018-2022).

Background: Penetrating carotid artery injuries (CAI) are rare with high morbidity and mortality. We aimed to perform a systematic review of the published literature to evaluate the workup and management of penetrating CAI.
Methods: Studies of acute management of adult trauma patients with penetrating common or internal carotid artery injuries on MEDLINE or EMBASE from 1946 through July 2024 were included following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement methodology.
