The goal of this paper is to explore a set of epistemological and ontological issues regarding the historical and philosophical role of placebos in the contested history of antidepressants. Starting from an account of the dual nature of the placebo as both an epistemic and a therapeutic tool, and against the background of the heated debates on the efficacy of second-generation antidepressants, I propose two related arguments. First, I argue that placebos as controls played a crucial but paradoxical role in the rise of so-called evidence-based approaches to depression.

Background: Approximately 30% of women worldwide experience intimate partner violence (IPV). Although as many as 92% report impacts to the head and/or strangulation that raise clinical suspicion of brain injury (BI), there are no evidence-based methods to document IPV-BI in this vulnerable population, no clinical practice guideline, and insufficient understanding about long-term risks including Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD). Although traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an established ADRD risk factor, little is known about attributable risk of ADRD due to IPV in either military or civilian populations.

Purpose: To perform risk assessment and analysis of potential infection during stomatology workflow in a hospital in the context of a major infectious disease outbreak, and to determine the key failure modes and measures to prevent and control infection.

Method: Following the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) method based on the stomatology workflow, the opinions of 30 domain-experts in related fields were collected through questionnaires to determine all potential failure modes in the severity (S), occurrence (O), and detectability (D) dimensions. The group score was then integrated through the median method and the risk priority number (RPN) was obtained.

Purpose: This purpose of this article was to use the method of conceptual history to analyze the evolution of the concept of "validity" in nursing diagnoses and to identify key transformations, theoretical influences, and implications for contemporary clinical judgment and decision-making.

Methods: Five stages derivate from the approach proposed by Reinhart Koselleck, including: identify the concept and its relevance, historical contextualization, contextual use, semantic changes over time, and synthesis and interpretation.

Findings: The concept of "validity" in nursing diagnoses is essential for accurate diagnostics, interdisciplinary communication, and evidence-based decision-making, though its interpretation varies due to differing philosophical perspectives and methodological challenges.

Background: The legalization and changing perception of marijuana have led to a significant increase in its use. Although studies exploring marijuana's physiological effects have grown, its effect on surgical outcomes remains unclear. This study investigates the influence of marijuana consumption on postoperative complications in patients undergoing abdominal body contouring surgeries such as abdominoplasties and panniculectomies.
