West Nile virus (WNV) infection is emerging as a disease of public health concern in Kerala, India with recurring outbreaks since 2011. With its tropical climate, biodiversity hot spots of Western ghats, forest cover, plenty of water bodies and bird sanctuaries, Kerala provides an ideal ecological niche for vector breeding and transmission of WNV. In this article, we reflect on the peculiar features of the outbreaks of WNV fever in Kerala and highlight the knowledge gaps, the research priorities and the need for effective control measures.

In the proposed paper, a new result is presented, which is as follows: the point on the equilibrium excess adsorption isotherm at which the rate of increase of concentration of a component in the adsorption phase reaches its mean value is the point at which the curvature of the isotherm takes its extreme value. This regularity also holds in the case of the adsorption of gases. This result is confirmed and valid for isotherms of various types.

Background: Foreign body inhalation is rare in older children, often leading to underdiagnosis and delayed treatment. Most cases involve a single foreign body, but instances of multiple foreign bodies are exceedingly uncommon. This report presents a case of an elder child who inhaled two pen caps, emphasizing the need for clinical vigilance and thorough medical history collection.

Marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve - anatomical peculiarities and clinical aspects.

Folia Morphol (Warsz)

January 2025

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Implantology "Arsenie Gutan", Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova.

Background: The expanding number of parotid ablations, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeries of the head and neck, considerably increased the risk of the marginal mandibular branch (MMB) injury. The purpose of our study was to determine the anatomical peculiarities of the MMB depending on the facial nerve branching pattern (FNBP), gender and cephalometric type.

Materials And Methods: The MMB was dissected on 75 hemiheads of adult embalmed cadavers.

Rationalization of the structural, electronic and photophysical properties of silver(I) halide -picolylamine hybrid coordination polymers.

Dalton Trans

January 2025

Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Istituto per la Sintesi Organica e la Fotoreattività (CNR-ISOF), Via Piero Gobetti 101, 40129 Bologna, Italy.

Hybrid coordination polimers based on AgX (with X = Cl, Br) and 2-, 3-, 4-picolylamine ligands, obtained by means of solvent-free methods, show peculiar luminescence properties that are strongly influenced by their structural motif, which in turn is defined by the adopted isomer of the ligand. A comprehensive study, combining photophysical methods and DFT calculations, allowed to rationalize the emissive behaviour of such hybrid coordination polymers in relation to their crystal structures and electronic properties. By means of luminescence measurements at variable temperatures, the nature of the emissive excited states and their deactivation dynamics was interpreted, revealing XMLCT transitions in the [(AgX)(2-pica)] compounds, a TADF behaviour in the case of 3-pica derivatives, and a dual emission at room temperature for the [(AgX)(4-pica)] family.
