Background & Aims: Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is caused by mutations in ferrochelatase which inserts iron into protoporphyrin-IX (PP-IX) to generate heme. EPP is characterized by PP-IX accumulation, skin photosensitivity, cholestasis, and end-stage liver disease. Despite available drugs that address photosensitivity, treatment of EPP-related liver disease remains an unmet need.

Background & Aim: Hemolytic anemia is a blood disorder whose incidence is increasing in the world in recent years especially after the pandemic. Conventional treatments include use of steroids and immunosuppresants that are accompanied by numerous adverse effects. With growing interest in using complex multi-component formulations for multi-targeted therapy, the present study aims to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of a traditional herbomineral preparation, , which has been traditionally used as a supplement in iron-deficiency anemia, against phenylhydrazine-induced hemolytic anemia in rodent models.

Aplastic Anemia (AA) is one of the life-threatening bone marrow failure syndromes. One of the main pathologies of AA is reduced erythropoietic activity evidenced by decreased soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR) levels which results in minimal iron utilization and accumulation of iron in tissues in the form of ferritin. This study aimed to measure serum level of sTfR in adult AA patients and correlate it with the severity of the disease and the response to treatment.

Background: ECMO plays a crucial role in treating severe respiratory and cardiac failure in pediatric patients. However, its impact on the regulation of erythropoietin (EPO) and erythropoiesis remains poorly understood. Factors such as improved oxygenation, inflammation, and hemodilution associated with ECMO treatment may influence EPO production and erythropoiesis.
