Aim: The purpose of this study was to analyze the clinical features of patients with posttraumatic paranasal sinus mucocele (PSM).

Subjects And Methods: Between 2009 and 2013, we performed endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) on 68 patients with PSM at the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Hyogo College of Medicine. Five male patients (age range, 45-76 years) with posttraumatic PSM were analyzed retrospectively. Diagnosis was based on the history of injury and radiological findings.

Results: Posttraumatic PSM was found in 7% (5/68) of patients. The mean interval from injury to diagnosis was 28.4 years. All patients had frontal sinus mucocele. Four patients had symptoms of headache, diplopia, visual field defect, and forehead swelling, and 1 patient was asymptomatic. ESS was performed under general anesthesia in all cases, and the symptoms improved postoperatively. Reoperation was required in 1 patient (20%) because headache developed with obstruction of the frontal drainage route 7 months after ESS.

Conclusions: Posttraumatic PSM was the least frequent form of PSM and was located predominantly in the frontal sinus, causing symptoms long after the forehead injury. The important lessons to be learned for treating posttraumatic PSM are to obtain a detailed history and to enlarge the route to the cyst to avoid its recurrence.

Background: In emergency warning nursing, the pre-alert system significantly influences the biochemical markers and clinical outcomes of patients with Acute Stress Disorder. Therefore, this study applies hierarchical analysis to explore the impact of early warning nursing on crucial indicators such as C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and assess their clinical efficacy.

Methods: The study selected patients with acute stress disorder who were hospitalized in Southwest Hospital of Chongqing from December 2021 to December 2022, and collected data from 250 patients.

Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) is one of the most important early onset symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease. Previous studies consistently reported that SCD is associated with quality of life, socio-economic factors, and related health comorbidities. However, the impact of veteran status on SCD has been little investigated.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the impact of fibrinogen and platelet transfusion ratios on the risk of post-traumatic sepsis in critically injured patients.
  • It utilizes data from the National Trauma Data Bank, analyzing patients who received significant amounts of packed red blood cells and both fibrinogen and platelets within the first 24 hours after trauma.
  • Results show that a higher fibrinogen/platelet ratio is associated with a lower incidence of sepsis and reduced length of ICU stay and mechanical ventilation needs.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a neuropsychiatric disorder that not only entails alterations in fear behavior and anxiety but also includes neuroendocrine dysfunctions involving the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis and the renin-angiotensin system. Recent preclinical studies demonstrate that activation of the angiotensin type 1 receptor (AT1R) in the paraventricular region of the hypothalamus (PVR) promotes anxiety-like behaviors and enables microglia proliferation. An increase in microglia and anxiety-like behavior also occurs in the PTSD animal model single-prolonged stress (SPS).
