[Purpose] This study evaluated the changes in balance ability and obstacle gait after lumbar stabilization exercise and Nintendo Wii(TM) Sports in elderly at risk for falls. [Subjects and Methods] Twenty-four elderly women with at risk for falls were randomly divided into the control, lumbar stabilization exercise, and Nintendo Wii Sports groups. Static balance was measured by the Berg Balance Scale and functional reach test, dynamic balance by the timed up-and-go test, and obstacle negotiation function by crossing velocity and maximum vertical heel clearance. [Results] Both the lumbar stabilization exercise and Nintendo Wii Sports groups showed significant improvements in obstacle negotiation function after the exercise compared to the control group. Berg Balance Scale and functional reach test scores were greater in the lumbar stabilization exercise group, while the timed up-and-go test time was significantly better in the Nintendo Wii Sports groups. [Conclusion] Lumbar stabilization exercises and Nintendo Wii Sports improve falling related balance and obstacle negotiation function in elderly women at risk for falls.

During the gestational period, the pubic symphysis dilates for vaginal delivery. However, exacerbated widening may indicate ligament injury and pelvic instability, resulting in significant pain complaints. This uncommon condition is called peripartum pubic symphysis disjunction (PPSD).

Objective: The objective of this study was to compare a multiple pelvic screw fixation strategy (dual bilateral 4 pelvic screw fixation [4PvS]) with the use of single bilateral 2 pelvic screw fixation (2PvS), with the aim of addressing lumbosacral junction stability.
Methods: This analysis is a single-center, retrospective review of ASD patients treated between 2015 and 2021. All patients had a minimum 2-year follow-up and spinal fusion to the sacrum without sacroiliac fusion and met at least one radiographic and procedural criterion: pelvic incidence-lumbar lordosis ≥ 20°, T1 pelvic angle ≥ 20°, sagittal vertical axis ≥ 7.

The use of minimalist shoes can lead to enhanced foot somatosensory activation and postural stability but can also increase the incidence of overuse injuries during high-impact or prolonged activities. Therefore, it appears useful to explore new strategies that employ minimalist shoes to effectively facilitate the somatosensory activation of the foot while minimizing acute and cumulative joint stress and risk of injury. To this purpose, this study introduces a novel exercise paradigm: walking for three minutes in ultra-minimalist shoes on artificial flat surfaces designed to mimic highly rugged natural terrains.

Introduction: The modified pedicle screw fixation (PSF) was designed to simulate an integrated framework structure to ameliorate the resistance to vertical and shearing forces of the disrupted sacroiliac complex, and the aim of this study was to compare the biomechanical characteristics of PSF and traditional lumbopelvic fixation (LPF) for the treatment of sacroiliac joint disruption.
Methods: The digital computer simulation model of an intact spine-pelvis-femur complex with main ligaments was built from clinical images. A left sacroiliac joint disruption model was mimicked by removing the concerned ligaments.
