Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been extensively used to produce electrodes of enhanced performance but have only been very recently exploited in microfluidic devices. In these cases, CNT electrodes had to be produced prior to device assembly, which might damage the CNT layer. Here, we show a fast and simple method for the reversible nanostructuration of microfluidic electrode devices in situ. The procedure is based on the attachment of single-walled CNTs (SWCNTs) onto the surface of magnetic particles (MPs) and magnetic confinement of the MP/SWCNT composite onto the sensor in a two-step process that provided homogeneous coating. As it is shown, subsequent magnet removal allows MP/SWCNT release and electrode reutilization. Compared to most previously described methods, ours is faster, simpler and also reversible.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with a very long duration, posing a serious threat to people's life and health. To date, no medicine that can cure or reverse the disease has been developed or reported, so early diagnosis and timely intervention are essential. The concentration of Phosphorylated tau181 (P-tau181) in blood has been approved by FDA as a standard for assisting clinical diagnosis of AD.

Fluorescent iron nanoclusters are emerging fluorescent nanomaterials. Herein, we synthesized hemoglobin-coated iron nanoclusters (Hb-Fe NCs) with a significant fluorescence emission peak at 615 nm and investigated the inner-filter effect of fluorescence induced by a manganese dioxide nanosheet (MnO NS). The fluorescence quenching of Hb-Fe NCs by a MnO NS can be significantly reversed by the addition of ascorbic acid.

Aiming toward a novel, noninvasive technique, with a real-time potential application in the monitoring of the complexation of steroidal neuromuscular blocker drugs Vecuronium () and Rocuronium () with sugammadex (, medication for the reversal of neuromuscular blockade induced by or in general anesthesia), we developed proof-of-principle methodology based on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). Silver nanoparticles prepared by the reduction of silver ions with hydroxylamine hydrochloride were used as SERS-active substrates, additionally aggregated with calcium nitrate as needed. The and SERS spectra were obtained within the biorelevant 5 × 10-1 × 10 M range, as well as the SERS of , though the latter was observed only in the presence of the aggregating agent.

The unique redox properties of nanoscale cerium dioxide determine its diverse application in biology and medicine as a regulator of oxidative metabolism. Lipid modifiers of the nanoparticle surface change their biochemical properties and bioavailability. Complexes with lipids can be formed upon contact of the nanoparticles with the membrane.

Artificial nanostructures with ultrafine and deep-subwavelength features have emerged as a paradigm-shifting platform to advanced light-field management, becoming key building blocks for high-performance integrated optoelectronics and flat optics. However, direct optical inspection of integrated chips remains a missing metrology gap that hinders quick feedback between design and fabrications. Here, we demonstrate that photothermal nonlinear scattering microscopy can be used for direct imaging and resolving of integrated optoelectronic chips beyond the diffraction limit.
