Background: The aim of the study was to measure the percentage of root canal fillings in long oval canals obturated with thermoplasticized gutta-percha techniques, Beefill 2in1® and Thermafil Obturators®.

Material And Methods: Fifty four mandibular incisors were selected after bucco-lingual and mesio-distal radiographs showed at 5 mm from apex an internal long:short diameter ≥2. Teeth were instrumented with Protaper Universal and divided in two groups of 27. Group 1 was obturated with Thermafil Obturators® and group 2 with Beefill 2in1®. Two horizontal sections were cut at 5 and 7 mm from the apex and photographed in a stereo-microscope. The total area of the canal and filled canal in cross-sections were measured with AutoCad and the percentages of gutta-percha-sealer and voids in the canal were obtained.

Results: Both systems achieved high percentage of filled canal, Thermafil 96.8% and Beefill 2in1 98.9%. The percentages of voids in both groups were very low. No significant differences were found between the two groups . The percentage obtained at 5 and 7 mm from the apex in both groups showed no significant difference.

Conclusions: The percentages of filled canal (gutta-percha-sealer) were high and these two thermoplasticized techniques are suitable for long oval canals obturation. Key words:Long oval canal, oval canal, thermoplasticized obturation.

Experimental investigation and finite element analysis on the durability of root-filled teeth treated with multisonic irrigation.

Dent Mater

January 2025

Minnesota Dental Research Center for Biomaterials and Biomechanics, School of Dentistry, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, USA. Electronic address:

Objective: This study compared the fracture load, stress distribution, and survival probability under cyclic loading of extensively restored teeth treated with multisonic irrigation with those treated with conventional instrumentation, with or without a post.

Methods: Mesial-occlusal-distal cavities were prepared in 30 human mandibular premolars. The teeth were randomly divided into 3 groups of 10 based on the endodontic and restorative procedures: (1) Root canal treatment (RCT) followed by resin composite restoration (control group), (2) RCT followed by a glass fiber post restoration (conventional group), and (3) minimal instrumentation plus multisonic irrigation followed by resin composite restoration (GW group).

Background: Immature maxillary central teeth can be managed by using several treatment options. The aim of this finite element stress analysis study was to evaluate the effect of different treatment procedures on the stresses on immature maxillary incisor teeth models that generated on cone beam computed tomography, by trauma and bite forces.

Methods: A total of 11 different models consisting of revascularization treatment using MTA and biodentine and the state of the root apex formed with cement after treatment, apexification, modified apexification, traditional root canal treatment and two different control groups have been created.

Aims: Tibial fixation in revision total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) can present surgical challenges. It has been suggested that appropriate fixation in at least two of the three anatomical zones (epiphysis, metaphysis, and diaphysis) is essential for implant survival. However, supporting clinical data are lacking.

Aim: This report highlights successful management of a rare case of a mandibular premolar with Oehler's Type IIIb Dens Invaginatus (DI) and peri-invagination periodontitis with guided intentional replantation (IR) without root canal treatment.

Methods: A 22-year-old female patient reported with discomfort and a sinus tract associated with tooth #21. Clinical examination and cone beam computed tomography revealed tooth #21 had an Oehler's Type IIIb DI with peri-invagination periodontitis.

Bone and Joint Reconstruction Research Center, Department of Orthopedics, School of Medicine, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

Background: Many unicameral bone cysts (UBC) can be resolved or treated conservatively. Managing persistent symptomatic UBCs in the humerus is particularly challenging. An effective surgical method with low complications is significant for treatment.
