To investigate the effect of anesthesia on gastric secretion, we measured pH and volume of gastric juice during anesthesia using the following anesthetic techniques: halothane anesthesia in three age groups, halothane without atropine premedication, halothane with thoracic epidural block, and enflurane anesthesia. Halothane anesthesia increased pH in all age groups and the increase in pH was greater in older age groups. Gastric pH also increased in halothane anesthesia group with thoracic epidural block and in enflurane anesthesia group. However, the increase in gastric pH and the decrease in gastric juice volume were not significant in halothane anesthesia group without atropine premedication. These results suggest that the increase in gastric pH during halothane anesthesia is due to parasympathetic nerve block.

Background: Dobutamine is used to treat hypotension in isoflurane-anaesthetised horses but may produce arrhythmias. Halothane is a volatile anaesthetic that was, historically, widely used in horses, but in one study, 56 of 200 halothane-anaesthetised horses (28%) developed arrhythmias after dobutamine administration. Although isoflurane has largely replaced halothane, it is unknown how isoflurane and dobutamine interact in the development of arrhythmias.

Doxorubicin (DOX) is a widely used anticancer agent, but its clinical application is limited by significant off-target hepatorenal toxicity. Tadalafil (TAD), a selective phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor used mainly for erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension, has shown potential in reducing oxidative stress. This study investigated TAD's chemoprotective effects and underlying mechanisms in DOX-induced hepatorenal toxicity in rats over 12 days.

Suxamethonium is considered by many to be the best drug for providing ideal intubating conditions, short surgical procedures, and rapid sequence induction. However, its usefulness is limited by the frequent occurrence of adverse effects like postoperative myalgia. Therefore this study aimed to assess the prevalence and associated factors of postoperative suxamethonium-induced myalgia.
