Background: Concurrent ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and acute ischemic stroke (AIS) are extremely rare, and their management remains perplexing due to the absence of high-quality evidence and limited resources. For the first time, we report a rare, preventable, and suboptimally managed case of concurrent AIS and STEMI in a patient with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) who received cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone (CHOP) chemotherapy.

Case Presentation: A 59-year-old postmenopausal woman of African origin with a background history of type 2 diabetes mellitus presented to the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute with sudden onset of left-sided weakness and typical ischemic chest pain for 3 days.

Uncontrolled non-compressible hemorrhage, which is often accompanied by coagulopathy, is a major cause of mortality following traumatic injuries in civilian and military populations. In this study, coagulopathy-independent injectable catechol-modified chitosan (CS-HCA) hemostatic materials featuring rapid shape recovery were fabricated by combining controlled sodium tripolyphosphate-crosslinking with hydrocaffeic acid (HCA) grafting. CS-HCA exhibited robust mechanical strength and rapid blood-triggered shape recovery.

Hemoadhican (HD) is an exopolysaccharide with a branched structure that has been reported for its high hemostatic ability. In this study, a HD-based hemostatic sponge was prepared through ultrasonic dissolution and freeze-drying without using any cross-linking agent. The sponge could spontaneously cross-link using hydrogen bonds to form adhesive mud within 3 s upon contact with blood.

Antithrombin (AT) deficiency in the extracorporeal circulation during cardiac surgery leads to uncontrolled inflammation and vascular damage in patients. AT levels decrease in sepsis, major trauma, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and eclampsia. Monitoring plasma AT levels facilitates the accurate restoration of AT to baseline values through precise supplementation.

Unlike hereditary hemophilia, acquired hemophilia is a rare life-threatening bleeding disorder that occurs in a person who has no personal or family history of bleeding episodes. It usually presents with new-onset subcutaneous/joint/muscle bleeding causing ecchymoses and hematomas, hematuria, GI bleeding, retroperitoneal bleeding, or rarely acute intracranial hemorrhage in elderly individuals. The diagnosis involves assessing prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) and conducting mixing studies after ruling out lupus anticoagulants and interfering substances such as heparins.
