Copper(II) coordination polymers have attracted considerable interest due to their catalytic, adsorption, luminescence and magnetic properties. The reactions of copper(II) with 2-amino-4-sulfobenzoic acid (H(2)asba) in the presence/absence of the auxiliary chelating ligand 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) under ambient conditions yielded two supramolecular coordination polymers, namely (3-amino-4-carboxybenzene-1-sulfonato-κO(1))bis(1,10-phenanthroline-κ(2)N,N')copper(II) 3-amino-4-carboxybenzene-1-sulfonate monohydrate, [Cu(C7H6N2O5S)(C12H8N2)2](C7H6N2O5S)·H2O, (1), and catena-poly[[diaquacopper(II)]-μ-3-amino-4-carboxylatobenzene-1-sulfonato-κ(2)O(4):O(4')], [Cu(C7H6N2O5S)(H2O)2]n, (2). The products were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), solid-state UV-Vis spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, as well as by variable-temperature powder X-ray diffraction analysis (VT-PXRD). Intermolecular π-π stacking interactions in (1) link the mononuclear copper(II) cation units into a supramolecular polymeric chain, which is further extended into a supramolecular double chain through interchain hydrogen bonds. Supramolecular double chains are then extended into a two-dimensional supramolecular double layer through hydrogen bonds between the lattice Hasba(-) anions, H2O molecules and double chains. Left- and right-handed 21 helices formed by the Hasba(-) anions are arranged alternately within the two-dimensional supramolecular double layers. Complex (2) exhibits a polymeric chain which is further extended into a three-dimensional supramolecular network through interchain hydrogen bonds. Complex (1) shows a reversible dehydration-rehydration behaviour, while complex (2) shows an irreversible dehydration-rehydration behaviour.

In recent decades, annual urban fire incidents, including those involving ancient wooden buildings burned, transportation, and solar panels, have increased, leading to significant loss of human life and property. Addressing this issue without altering the surface morphology or interfering with optical behavior of flammable materials poses a substantial challenge. Herein, we present a transparent, low thickness, ceramifiable nanosystem coating composed of a highly adhesive base (poly(SSS-co-HEMA)), nanoscale layered double hydroxide sheets as ceramic precursors, and supramolecular melamine di-borate as an accelerator.

In this study an in situ forming gel for curcumin and piperine delivery is investigated as a long-lasting strategy in the local treatment of inflammatory and degenerative joint disease, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Particularly glyceryl monooleate, in association with phosphatidylcholine and ethanol, were employed. Different ratios between excipients were tested, with the aim to obtain a liquid form suitable for subcutaneous injection, gaining a semisolid consistency in contact with biological fluids.

Figure-eight macrocycles represent a fascinating class of π-conjugated units characterized by unique aesthetics and non-contact molecular crossing at the center. Despite progress in synthesis over the past century, research into inorganic, organic, and polymeric figure-eight materials remains in its infancy. Here we report the first examples of figure-eight covalent organic frameworks by condensing figure-eight knots to create extended porous figure-eight π architectures.

Toluidine blue O (TBO) is a type I-type II photosensitizer that has shown good efficacy and selectivity in antimicrobial and anticancer photodynamic therapy applications. However, its complex photochemistry with multiple photoproducts hinders its application as a photosensitizer. We have previously described the mechanism for photooxidative demethylation of TBO which in acetonitrile yields two main products: demethylated-TBO (d-TBO) and double-demethylated-TBO (dd-TBO).

Using photoswitchable molecules to manipulate supramolecular interactions under light illumination has driven advancements in numerous fields, allowing for the strategic alteration of molecular systems. However, integrating the moiety responsible for these interactions into the photochromic scaffold can be complex and may hamper the switching efficiency. We thus explored a simple class of organic molecules, namely thiosemicarbazones, featuring both a photoisomerizable C[double bond, length as m-dash]N double bond and a thiourea moiety capable of hydrogen bonding.
