The abnormal expression of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is linked to the development of various diseases. Accurate determination of AChE activity as well as screening AChE inhibitors (AChEIs) holds paramount importance for early diagnosis and treatment of AChE-related diseases. Herein, a fluorescent and colorimetric dual-channel probe based on gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) and manganese dioxide nanosheets (MnO NSs) was developed.

Physical and photophysical properties of starch-based biopolymer films containing 5-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-amine (NTA) powder as a nanofiller were examined using atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), stationary UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy as well as resonance light scattering (RLS) and time-resolved measurements, and where possible, analyzed with reference to pristine NTA solutions. AFM studies revealed that the addition of NTA into the starch biopolymer did not significantly affect surface roughness, with all examined films displaying similar Sq values ranging from 70.7 nm to 79.

Bullet characterization using Photon-Counting detector CT: A phantom study with intact bullets.

Eur J Radiol

December 2024

Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Maastricht University Medical Centre+, PO Box 5800, 6202 AZ Maastricht, the Netherlands; Mental Health and Sciences (MHeNs) Research Institute, Maastricht University, PO Box 616, 6200 MD Maastricht, the Netherlands.

Objectives: Photon-counting detector CT (PCD-CT) is expected to substantially improve and expand CT-imaging applicability due to its intrinsic spectral capabilities, increased spatial resolution, reduced electronic noise, and improved image contrast. The current study aim is to evaluate PCD-CT efficacy in characterizing bullets based on their dimensions, shape, and material composition.

Materials And Methods: This is an observational phantom study examining 11 unfired, intact bullets of various common calibers, placed in ballistic gelatin.

Gastric carcinoma with lymphoid stroma (GCLS) is characterized by dense intra-and peritumoral lymphocytic infiltration and a high rate of Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) infection, suggesting being a promising candidate for immunotherapy. We investigated correlations between PD-L1 expression and clinicopathologic factors, including EBV positivity and microsatellite instability (MSI) status in GCLSs. The study included resected 214 GCLSs and 300 gastric adenocarcinomas (GACs) for control.

Gold nanoclusters-based dual-mode ratiometric sensing system for selective and sensitive detection of paraquat.

Talanta

December 2024

Macau Centre for Research and Development in Chinese Medicine, State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, University of Macau, Macau, 999078, China. Electronic address:

Unreasonable or illegal utilization of pesticides may lead to pollution of agricultural products, especially with some persistent but effective pesticides. Hence, there is an urgent need to develop sensitive and rapid methods for pesticide detection to ensure the safety of agricultural products. Herein, a dual-mode ratiometric sensing system utilizing two gold nanoclusters (G/R-AuNCs) was designed and constructed for paraquat (PQ) detection, a typical, highly toxic, widely used pesticide.
