Published: May 2016

Case Report: We report the case of a 3-year-old female patient with therapy refractive recurrent conjunctivitis and membrane formation of the upper eyelid. After surgical removal the histological examination showed an image compatible with ligneous conjunctivitis. A manifest serum plasminogen deficiency (22 %) supported the diagnosis.

Treatment: The treatment with corticosteroids, heparin-containing and fresh frozen plasma (FFP) eye drops, renewed surgical ablation with perioperative intravenous FFP administration and local cyclosporine A eye drops achieved a stable condition with low disease activity.

Conclusion: The combination of these therapy approaches has been performed here for the first time and has not been described in the literature so far.

Preparation of Hybrid Molecularly Imprinted Polymers Based on 3-Triethoxysilylpropyl Methacrylic Amide for Solid-Phase Extraction of Gatifloxacin From Lake Water.

J Sep Sci

March 2025

Tianjin Key Laboratory on Technologies Enabling Development of Clinical Therapeutics and Diagnostics, School of Pharmacy, Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin, People's Republic of China.

A novel molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) against gatifloxacin based on a hybrid monomer (3-triethoxysilylpropyl methacrylic amide, APTES-MAA) was reported. In this study, the imprinted monolith was synthesized with gatifloxacin as template, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as cross-linker, and APTES-MAA as functional monomer in a mixture of acetonitrile and isooctane as porogen via an optimization based on density functional theory (DFT). The polymers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and mercury porosimetry.

mPEG-PCL modified Caffeic acid eye drops for endotoxin-induced uveitis treatment.

Sci Rep

March 2025

State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology, Optometry and Vision Science, Eye Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, Zhejiang, People's Republic of China, 325000.

The modulation of inflammatory mediators has emerged as a critical therapeutic strategy in uveitis management. Current nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory therapies face limitations due to systemic side effects. Caffeic acid (CA), a natural polyphenol with anti-inflammatory properties, holds therapeutic potential but suffers from poor solubility and ocular irritation.

Introduction: To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a varenicline solution nasal spray 0.03 mg (VNS) in reducing signs and symptoms of dry eye disease following corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL).

Methods: Subjects undergoing CXL were randomized to VNS (study) or vehicle (control) twice daily and initiated treatment with VNS 28 days prior to the procedure with continued use for 28 days following the procedure.

This study aimed to evaluate the clinical application of different myopia correction methods in the prevention and control of myopia in adolescents. A total of 145 myopic adolescents aged 8 to 15 years were included, and their eyes were divided into four groups based on the treatment modality: wearing Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (DIMS) spectacle lenses alone (Group A), orthokeratology (OK) lenses alone (Group B), DIMS spectacle lenses combined with racemic anisodamine eye drops (Group C), and OK lenses combined with racemic anisodamine eye drops (Group D). The primary outcomes, including axial length and refractive error (expressed as spherical equivalent refraction, SER), were measured at baseline and at the 12-month follow-up.

Purpose: Less invasive options for treating pathological blood vessel growth and leakage in the eye are an attractive option pursued by many in the commercial and academic spaces alike. However, achieving safe and effective therapeutic delivery to the posterior segment with a topical eye drop has proven very challenging. In this review, we describe past and ongoing clinical efforts to develop topical ocular therapies for the clinical management of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-dependent retinal vascular diseases.
