Background: Unhealthy sleep and exposures to oxidative factors are both associated with poor cognitive performance (PCP), but limited evidence has been found regarding the relationship between sleep patterns and oxidative factor exposures independently or jointly with the risk of PCP.
Methods: We analyzed data from 2249 adults aged ≥60 years in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database (2011-2014). Self-reported questionnaires were used to collect data on sleep duration and sleep disorder, categorizing sleep duration into three groups based on responses: short (6 hours or less per night), normal (7-8 hours per night), or long (9 hours or more per night).

Carbon-supported single-atom catalysts exhibit exceptional properties in acidic CO reduction. However, traditional carbon supports fall short in building high-site-utilization and CO-rich interfacial environments, and the structural evolution of single-atom metals and catalytic mechanisms under realistic conditions remain ambiguous. Herein, an interconnected mesoporous carbon nanofiber and carbon nanosheet network (IPCF@CS) is reported, derived from microphase-separated block copolymer, to improve catalytic efficiency of isolated Ni.

Background: A healthy diet has been proposed to support good mental health, but the addition of either red meat or meat alternatives is nuanced.
Objectives: We aimed to determine if psychological and physiological well-being is differentially affected by consuming recommended weekly amounts of either lean red meat or plant-based meat alternatives (PBMAs) supplemented with a plant-rich diet.
Methods: The trial was a parallel 2-arm randomized intervention of 10 wk duration.

This study probes into the unique metabolic responses of (), a key player in the gut microbiota, when it metabolizes rhamnose rather than typical carbohydrates. Known for its predominant role in the Bacteroidetes phylum, efficiently breaks down poly- and mono-saccharides into beneficial short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), crucial for both host health and microbial ecology balance. Our research focused on how this bacterium's SCFA production differ when utilizing various monosaccharides, with an emphasis on the oxidative stress responses triggered by rhamnose consumption.

RNA-lipid interactions directly influence RNA activity, which plays a crucial role in the development of new applications in medicine and biotechnology. However, while specific preferential behaviors between RNA and lipid bilayers have been identified experimentally, their molecular origin remains unexplored. Here we use molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the interaction between RNA and membranes composed of zwitterionic lipids at the atomistic level.
