Deuterium-labeling studies carried out in conjunction with investigations into the directed catalytic asymmetric hydroboration of unsaturated oxime ethers reveal a surprisingly facile -metallation or σ-bond metathesis pathway that that diverts the expected course of CAHB to a tandem C-H activation/hydroboration reaction pathway.

Thioxanthone (TX) molecules and their derivatives are well-known photoactive compounds. Yet, there exist only a handful of luminescent systems combining TX with transition metals. Recently, we reported a TX-based PSP pincer ligand () that appears as a promising platform for filling this niche.

Linear and Nonlinear Rheological Investigations of Poly(3-hexylthiophene) H-Aggregated Gel Networks.

J Phys Chem B

December 2024

School of Applied and Interdisciplinary Sciences, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, 2A & 2B Raja S. C. Mullick Road, Jadavpur, Kolkata 700032, India.

Article Synopsis
  • Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) is a popular material in organic electronics due to its easy synthesis and low cost, but achieving well-defined chain arrangements depends on the solvent polarity used.
  • Research shows that different organic solvents can lead to distinct aggregation types in P3HT: H-type aggregates in solvents like anisole and phenetole, and J-type aggregates in toluene.
  • P3HT’s behavior at low concentrations results in unique properties, such as H-type aggregates forming a gel network that halts solvent flow, while J-type aggregates do not, and further testing reveals detailed viscoelastic and structural properties of these P3HT networks.

Three novel core green fluorescent protein (GFP) chromophore analogues, based on a doubly locked conformation and variable electronic effects by replacing one hydrogen with bromine, iodine, and methyl, respectively, have been synthesized to modulate the push-pull effect. These chromophores exhibited intramolecular H-bonding, as evidenced by single-crystal X-ray and H NMR studies. The fluorescence quantum yields (ϕ) of all of the chromophores were found to be more than an order of magnitude higher (∼0.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the impact of microplastics (MPs) in aquatic environments, focusing on effluents from textile industries, which are significant contributors to MP pollution.
  • Using various analytical techniques, researchers found that polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polyamide were the most prevalent plastic types in the effluents, with municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) surprisingly contributing more overall pollution despite better MP removal rates.
  • A new bio-based flocculant made from wood wastes was developed, showing effectiveness in removing PET microplastics from wastewater, thereby addressing the issue of MP contamination from WWTP discharges.

Wool powder assisted colorimetric sensing yarn with high sensitivity for NH monitoring.

Biosens Bioelectron

January 2025

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, School of Fashion and Textiles, Research Center of Textiles for Future Fashion, 999077, Hong Kong, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Colorimetric sensors are useful for gas monitoring as they detect gas presence through visible color changes, but creating highly sensitive versions has been a challenge.
  • This study developed a sensitive colorimetric sensing yarn by combining anthocyanins dye with wool powder, significantly enhancing its sensitivity to ammonia (NH) gas.
  • The yarn's detection limit improved from 100 ppm to 20 ppm, and the response time decreased from 2 minutes to just 20 seconds, showcasing potential for effective toxic gas monitoring in wearable devices.
