We quantitatively examine the relative importance of uncertainty in emissions and physicochemical properties (including reaction rate constants) to Northern Hemisphere (NH) and Arctic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) concentrations, using a computationally efficient numerical uncertainty technique applied to the global-scale chemical transport model GEOS-Chem. Using polynomial chaos (PC) methods, we propagate uncertainties in physicochemical properties and emissions for the PAHs benzo[a]pyrene, pyrene and phenanthrene to simulated spatially resolved concentration uncertainties. We find that the leading contributors to parametric uncertainty in simulated concentrations are the black carbon-air partition coefficient and oxidation rate constant for benzo[a]pyrene, and the oxidation rate constants for phenanthrene and pyrene. NH geometric average concentrations are more sensitive to uncertainty in the atmospheric lifetime than to emissions rate. We use the PC expansions and measurement data to constrain parameter uncertainty distributions to observations. This narrows a priori parameter uncertainty distributions for phenanthrene and pyrene, and leads to higher values for OH oxidation rate constants and lower values for European PHE emission rates.

Although the long-term outcomes of the surgical grafts are well defined and reported, the data regarding the mid-and long-term results of the balloon-expandable percutaneous valves in the native right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) is limited. We retrospectively evaluated 42 patients who underwent PPVI (Sapien® XT valve) to native RVOT due to severe pulmonary regurgitation (PR) and/or moderate to severe pulmonary stenosis (PS) between August 2015 and November 2020. The median patient age at the time of PPVI was 13.

Previously, boost and sag effects seen in unfused tetanic contractions have been studied exclusively at constant stimulation frequency. However, intervals between successive discharges of motoneurons vary during voluntary movements. We therefore aimed to test whether the extra-efficient force production at the onset of contraction (boost) occurs during stimulation with variable intervals, and to what extent it depends on the level of interpulse interval (IPI) variability and history of stimulation.

Background: Shoulder arthroplasty is increasingly performed for shoulder conditions such as arthritis, rotator cuff arthropathy, and traumatic injuries. Registries and other compilations of patient data provide the opportunity to detect meaningful differences in outcomes between alternative techniques and implants. A wide range of outcome measurements are reported after shoulder arthroplasty, but the sample sizes needed to identify meaningful differences has not been studied systematically.

Long-range exciton transport is crucial for optoelectronic devices based on organic semiconductors, but the method for increasing and regulating the exciton transport rate in organic semiconductors is still underexplored. Here we have achieved rapid-transporting excitons in organic crystals assembled of difluoroboron β-diketonate (BCZ) and found that the exciton transport rate of BCZ crystals can be regulated by the molecular packing form. Using transient absorption microscopy, we find that the BCZ-Y crystal in which BCZ molecules experience uniform head-to-tail antiparallel molecular packing has anisotropic long-range exciton transport.

Background: Reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) is increasingly used in the treatment of proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) with reliable clinical improvement. Lateralized RSA implants have conferred superior outcomes compared with the original Grammont design in patients with nontraumatic indications. However, in the setting of a PHF, lateralized components can place increased tension across the tuberosity fracture site and potentially compromise tuberosity healing and outcomes.
