Embryonic stem (ES) cells have a remarkable capacity to self-organize complex, multi-layered optic cups in vitro via a culture technique called SFEBq. During both SFEBq and in vivo optic cup development, Rax (Rx) expressing neural retina epithelial (NRE) tissues utilize Fgf and Wnt/β-catenin signalling pathways to differentiate into neural retina (NR) and retinal-pigmented epithelial (RPE) tissues, respectively. How these signaling pathways affect gene expression during optic tissue formation has remained largely unknown, especially at the transcriptome scale. Here, we address this question using RNA-Seq. We generated Rx+ optic tissue using SFEBq, exposed these tissues to either Fgf or Wnt/β-catenin stimulation, and assayed their gene expression across multiple time points using RNA-Seq. This comparative dataset will help elucidate how Fgf and Wnt/β-catenin signaling affect gene expression during optic tissue differentiation and will help inform future efforts to optimize in vitro optic tissue culture technology.

Methods: A retrospective review of all patients who underwent the T-shaped wedge resection by the authors from 2009 to 2017. A horizontal eyelid crease incision is made across the upper eyelid skin.

Background: During the course of the past two decades, head-mounted augmented reality surgical navigation (HMARSN) systems have been increasingly employed in a variety of surgical specialties as a result of both advancements in augmented reality-related technologies and surgeons' desires to overcome some drawbacks inherent to conventional surgical navigation systems. In the present time, most experimental HMARSN systems adopt overlain display (OD) that overlay virtual models and planned routes of surgical tools on corresponding physical tissues, organs, lesions, and so forth, in a surgical field so as to provide surgeons with an intuitive and direct view to gain better hand-eye coordination as well as avoid attention shift and loss of sight (LOS), among other benefits during procedures. Yet, its system accuracy, which is the most crucial performance indicator of any surgical navigation system, is difficult to ascertain because it is highly subjective and user-dependent.

Methods: Discarded synovial tissue collected from patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty at our hospital was digested with type I collagenase.
