Migration of formaldehyde to aqueous extracts from paper and cardboard food packaging materials was determined by an ultraviolet visible-spectrophotometric method at 410 nm. Intraday and interday precision of the method, expressed as coefficient of variation, varied between 1.5 to 4.4% and 7 to 8.8%, respectively. The limit of quantification was 0.28 mg kg(-1) for formaldehyde in aqueous extracts. The recovery of the method was over 90% for two different concentration levels in aqueous extracts. The method was applied to the migration of formaldehyde to aqueous extracts from 31 different paper and cardboard materials collected from the packaging sector, intended for food contact, such as tea filters, hot water filters, paper pouches and folding boxes. The results were between limit of detection 0.23 mg/kg and 40 mg kg(-1) and were evaluated according to the relevant directives.

Background: The direct and accurate measurement of low-level γ-emitters in samples from nuclear facilities is a challenging task due to the presence of high activities of dominant radionuclides. In this case a complex chemical separation is required to remove interfering radionuclides prior to γ-spectrometric analysis. Several radionuclides such as, Ag, Sb, Sn and Te are of relevance for radioanalytical analysis in nuclear facilities.

Anacardic acid (AA) is a phenolic lipid extracted from cashew nutshell liquid that has antitumor activity. Given the high hydrophobicity of this compound and aiming to create efficient vehicle for its administration in aqueous systems, the objective of the present work was to develop a microcapsule (MCAA) by spray dryer technique, based on the polysaccharide sodium hyaluronate (SH), containing AA as its core, encapsulated from nanoemulsion. The Encapsulation Efficiency of MCAA presented a value equal to 95.

This study evaluated the antioxidant and antiproliferative effects of aqueous, ethanolic and methanolic extracts of Sedum nicaeense flowers and leaves. The MTT assay assessed cytotoxicity against colorectal cancer cells (Caco-2, HCT-116), breast cancer cells (T47D, MCF-7) and normal fibroblasts (MRC-5), while the ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay measured antioxidant capacity. Essential oils from flowers and leaves were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

Given the environmental and ecological risks posed by wastewater bearing Mo, the characteristics and microscopic interactions of existing silica-based adsorbents have not been thoroughly investigated, highlighting the need to enhance the porosity and chemical interactions of these materials. Considering the effectiveness of amino groups in binding metal oxyanions, this study investigates the adsorption performance and mechanism of amino-functionalized MCM-41 for Mo(VI), with the goal of efficiently remediating Mo-contaminated wastewater. MCM-41 modified by amino group retains its original structure and mesoporous characteristics while featuring a positively charged surface and chemically bonded amino groups.

Phyto-nanotechnology provides an eco-friendly approach for synthesizing biocompatible metal nanoparticles (NPs) with therapeutic potential. (LI) has been historically valued for its diverse medicinal applications, especially its exceptional biological potency against various skin diseases, attributed to its rich abundance of bioactive compounds. Therefore, herein, plant-based iron and zinc NPs were biofabricated via sustainable and simple methods, using crude extracts of the aerial parts of LI as reducing, coating, and stabilizing agents.
