Response preparation is accomplished by gradual accumulation in neural activity until a threshold is reached. In humans, such a preparatory signal, referred to as the lateralized readiness potential, can be observed in the EEG over sensorimotor cortical areas before execution of a voluntary movement. Although well-described for manual movements, less is known about preparatory EEG potentials for saccadic eye movements in humans and nonhuman primates.

Skeletal muscle shear elastic modulus is a non-invasive surrogate for early detection of muscle damage and soreness consequent to unaccustomed eccentric muscle work. We investigated the influence of marathon distance running on skeletal muscle shear elastic modulus. Shear modulus of the rectus femoris was measured via ultrasound shear wave elastography in 80 participants (30 female, 50 male) before and after running a World Marathon Major.

Female Brain & Endocrine Health Research (FemBER) Consortium.
Background: Recent studies have demonstrated a greater risk of dementia in female veterans compared to civilians; with the highest prevalence noted for former service women with a diagnosis of psychiatric (trauma, alcoholism, depression), and/or a physical health condition (brain injury, insomnia, diabetes). Such findings highlight the need for increased and early screening of medical and psychiatric conditions, and indeed dementia, in the female veteran population. Further, they call for a better understanding of the underlying biopsychosocial mechanisms that might confer heightened risk for female veterans, to tailor preventative and interventional strategies that support brain health across the lifespan.

Purpose: The incidence of cancer, which is a serious public health concern, is increasing. A predictive analysis driven by machine learning was integrated with haematology parameters to create a method for the simultaneous diagnosis of several malignancies at different stages.
Patients And Methods: We analysed a newly collected dataset from various hospitals in Jordan comprising 19,537 laboratory reports (6,280 cancer and 13,257 noncancer cases).

Patients with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (ccTGA) can be treated with a double switch operation (DSO) to restore the normal anatomical connection of the left ventricle (LV) to the systemic circulation and the right ventricle (RV) to the pulmonary circulation. The subpulmonary LV progressively deconditions over time due to its connection to the low pressure pulmonary circulation and needs to be retrained using a surgical pulmonary artery band (PAB) for 6-12 months prior to the DSO. The subsequent clinical follow-up, consisting of invasive cardiac pressure and non-invasive imaging data, evaluates LV preparedness for the DSO.
