Tuning the sensitivity of energetic materials has always been a research topic of interest. A lot of attention has been paid on changing the ligands previously used in traditional high energy density materials (HEDMs). Recently, we have stepped further along this path by thinking from another angle, i.e., changing the metal centre. Herein, we report 4 transition metal complexes bearing the 1,5-diaminotetrazole ligand, which have similar structures but drastically different sensitivities. These differences are apparently due to the different metal centres used.

Innovative Heating for the Nano Age: Exploring the Potentials of Carbothermal Shock.

ACS Nano

Heating techniques have underpinned the progress of the material and manufacturing industries. However, the explosive development of nanomaterials and micro/nanodevices has raised more requirements for the heating technique, including but not limited to high efficiency, low cost, high controllability, good usability, scalability, universality, and eco-friendliness. Carbothermal shock (CTS), a heating technique derived from traditional electrical heating, meets these requirements and is advancing at a high rate.

In order to promote low-carbon sustainable development in the ecological environment and improve the efficiency of hydrogen and natural gas energy utilization, this project carried out research on the explosive effects of different thicknesses of ordered porous media on the hydrogen-methane gas mixture. A detailed discussion was conducted based on the critical quenching hydrogen blending ratio under the thicknesses of 50 mm and 60 mm of ordered porous media. The results indicate that the critical quenching hydrogen blending ratio is 9% for a thickness of 50 mm and 20% for a thickness of 60 mm, indicating that greater thickness enhances flame suppression capabilities.

The mechanical behavior and fracture mechanisms of deep fractured rocks under explosive dynamic loads are critical for understanding rock instability in engineering applications such as blasting operations. This study aims to investigate how the presence of pre-existing cracks and different stress states affect the mechanical properties and fracture patterns of rock-like specimens under dynamic loading conditions. We utilized a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) with an active confining pressure loading device to conduct impact compression tests on rock-like specimens containing pre-existing cracks.
