Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is a significant health issue that increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and renal failure. This condition broadly encompasses both primary and secondary forms. Despite extensive research, the underlying mechanisms of systemic arterial hypertension-particularly primary hypertension, which has no identifiable cause and is affected by genetic and lifestyle agents-remain complex and not fully understood.

Tacrolimus (TAC) is an immunosuppressant widely utilized in organ transplantation. One of its primary adverse effects is glucose metabolism disorder, which significantly increases the risk of diabetes. Investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying TAC-induced diabetes is essential for developing effective prevention and treatment strategies for these adverse effects.

Structural and theoretical studies of amantadinium fenamates.

Acta Crystallogr B Struct Sci Cryst Eng Mater

February 2025

Faculty of Pharmacy, Wroclaw Medical University, Borowska 211A, Wrocław, 50-556, Poland.

Two new crystals of amantadinium salts were obtained from fenamic and tolfenamic acid. The salt of fenamic acid is a model compound for interaction analysis, while amantadinium tolfenamate is a composition of a drug used in the treatment of symptoms of Parkinsonism and as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The crystal structures were studied and a theoretical analysis of the hydrogen bonds and weak interactions was carried out using quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) and non-covalent interaction (NCI) methods.

Considering the increasing use of immune checkpoint inhibitors in cancer treatment, our aim is to report a rare cutaneous immune-related adverse event induced by PD-1 inhibitor pembrolizumab and provide a brief overview of pembrolizumab-induced subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) cases in the literature. We report a 67-year-old woman with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma who developed SCLE during treatment with pembrolizumab. After 18 weeks (sixth cycle) of pembrolizumab immunotherapy, a widespread pruritic erythematous rash evaluated as grade 3 immune-related adverse event appeared primarily on the patient's limbs.

Prussian Blue Nanozyme Featuring Enhanced Superoxide Dismutase-like Activity for Myocardial Ischemia Reperfusion Injury Treatment.

ACS Nano

January 2025

Jiangsu Key Laboratory for Biomaterials and Devices, School of Biomedical Sciences and Medical Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing 210096, P. R. China.

The blood flow, when restored clinically following a myocardial infarction (MI), disrupts the physiological and metabolic equilibrium of the ischemic myocardial area, resulting in secondary damage termed myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI). Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and inflammatory reactions stand as primary culprits behind MIRI. Current strategies focusing on ROS-scavenging and anti-inflammatory actions have limited remission of MIRI.
